11 yr old kid commits suicide

I've just read this http://edition.cnn.com/2009/US/04/23...ef=mpstoryview and i cant believe my fxcking eyes. An 11 yr old child has commited suicide for being harassed by bullies!

WTF is this world coming to ?!

I heard on the news the other day that it was the 10th anniversary of the Columbine High School shootings. Apparently 2 kids went in to their school n shot 12 classmates, a teacher and then themselves.....because they were being bullied.

Fxcking murder and suicide because of bullying. This is sick. People shouldnt be driven to murder and suicide.

But somehow in a crazy weird way i kinda understand it.... if i had the chance to kill the people that made my life a misery and still have a great impact on it now...i think i would have done it. I'm not saying i condone those murders at all...because it was wrong. I'm just saying i understand it.

Any thoughts??

I don't find it that suprising but then myself and people I know have considered suicide much younger than 11. Kids are much older in the head now, they encouraged to mature too fast in a way they are too young to be able to understand and cope with. Bullying has always been around and it always will be. Its sad but it's the truth.

You're entirely bonkers. But I'll tell you a secret. All the best people are.

I don't see what differance the age of the person makes actually. So it's less of a tragedy if an 80 year old committs suicide than an 18 year old? The suffering is just as great in either case.

all this **** about it being 'normal' and 'character building' winds me up. bullying ruins lives- this is just one more example of that.

poor kid,

I think maybe because the younger they are, the worse it is as they have hardly even experienced life whereas a 80 year old has lived much of her/his life.

Death is death however, but when it's used upon oneself, it's devistating and so sad... must have been in so much pain and despair to do that... R.I.P...

Part of struggle with such a young child committing suicide is that it raises questions of whether the child would fully have understood what they were doing and also, how they came about the knowledge that would allow them to successfully commit suicide.

Something i do find interesting though, is that as far as i can remember, most successful suicide attempts in young children are as a result of hanging.

I hope the wee lad didn't suffer for long, the bullying is over and he can't be hurt anymore. Hopefully something good can come from this though and more can be done to help bullied children, though, there have been many other young suicides where lessons should have been learnt and i'm not sure if they have.

I remember ages ago a kid as young as 11 hanged themselves, it happens. It's horribly sad they didn't get the help and thought it was the only way out though :

There was another case this week of a 7 yr old who hung himself. He was a foster child being given three different meds. Its horrible to be giving drugs to kids this young

Ohmygod! That's like... Really horrible.. :( I know it happens, but it's always bad. It's always horrible. It always destroys the family... Jeez... :'(

With a kid that young it does make me wonder if he really knew what he was doing, and where he got the idea. I don't think I knew about suicide at all til I was 13 or something...

My first attempt was at around 9. I was pretty low before that, started SHing at 7-8ish. So, it's possible. Depression in young people seems to be quite common.

You can be depressed at any age. I was 11 when I first began having major problems with depression and SH that only escalated with time.

it's really sad. i dont quite get why it's major news though -- my mom's clinic had a kid several years younger than that (i think he was like 8 or 9 or something) who actually threatened suicide in a psychiatrist's office and was sent home at the end of his appointment as though nothing had happened...

My first thoughts of suicide were at age 8, and I was self harming before that (didn't know it was 'self harm' though).
