riku3323: i believe they don't, that God's grace works in eve the most desperate situations. not to say it isn't a sin but God's love can overcome all our sins
i stumbled across this thread *thank you GOD* I am in dire need of prayers and understanding. I have been praying for gods grace but I feel so abandoned and ashamed of my self harming.
I know he has not abandoned me but i dont know how to reconnect with him? I feel so far away and not worthy of his acknowledgement. When i cry, i talk to him. I pray that he will send someone to help me with this problem. Because I am weak in the flesh, I need someone physically here to help me through this.
**Abba, where are you? i need u. send someone PLEASE!**
It's ok - I've found myself in your situation many, many times.
You find yourself asking again and again, 'how can God love me, when it seems so often that self harm is ruling my life, not God?'
And you know what - I'm SO glad you posted this!! Because I honestly believe I was starting to slip into that mindset again, and you've brought me back round to a better way of thinking, by reminding me that this is NOT the case!
Jesus died for us so that we do not need to feel ashamed or guilty!
Read Romans! Read Romans and pray, and listen.
It's such an inspiring book any time, but particularly in this situation we self harmers sometimes find ourselves in:
Romans 5: 6-8 (New Century Version) "When we were unable to help ourselves, at the moment of our need, Christ died for us, although we were living against God... God shows us his great love for us in this way: Christ died for us while we were still sinners"
How encouraging is that?! And it gets better...
Romans 8: 1-4 (New Century Version) So now, those who are in Christ Jesus are not judged guilty. Through Jesus Christ the law of the Spirit that brings life made me free from the law that brings sin and death... God did what the law could not do. He sent his own Son to earth with the same human life others use for sin. By sending his Son to be an offering to pay for sin, God used a human life to destroy sin... Now we do not live following our sinful selves, but we live by following the Spirit. 9
For you are not ruled by your sinful selves, but by the Spirit, if that spirit of God lives in you.
Ok, wow... God loves us sooo much that he doesn't even want us to feel guilty over our sin! Just think, for a seccond how encoaraging this is! Think of the sacrfice God has made so that we sinners are not condemned, or 'judged guilty'. As long as we allow the Spirit (God's holy Spirit) to live in us (or in other words, accept Christ into our lives), we are free, in God's eyes, of self injury!!
I really hope this helps you , and anyone else reading this, to feel much more encouraged!
If you feel you need more advice, a chat, comfort or prayer or ANYTHING just feel free to PM any time! I'll always listen. As you said, having someone 'physically' there is always such a help x x
Kits (tatty kitty) is my Evanescence loving sis!
I've woken now to find myself In the shadows of all I have created... Won't you take me away from me
for apologetics stuff, from what you've posted so far it seems like you may appreciate Ravi Zacharias. He's written books and also has stuff on his website [rzim.org]; look under Resources.
Started reading "The Shack" the other week but can't bring myself to carry on. I know I need to take responsibility but at the same time, I just want out.
How do I claw back my faith? Why is it that despite the logical me trying to dismiss it, I can't give up?
I need prayer for guidance.
Thanks!
"Everything is possible through Christ, who gives me strength". Phillipians 4:13
Thanks you guys for the links and the wonderful things you have all said. I can't believe how fast this week has gone!
It's been an incredibly hard week, and I'm not sure I'm up to Sunday, but I will do it and I shall let you know how it went too.

Hmmmm. I think I'll in some sense disagree (((as politely as possible...)))
Look at 2 Corinthians 7:10
"For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, whereas worldly grief produces death." (ESV)
There are 2 kinds of grief (read guilt). Godly grief, which is when we're ashamed or guilty about a sin we've committed because we know that sin separates us from God, and therefore we want to repent to restore that relationship.
And worldly grief, which is where we feel guilty or ashamed over a sin we've committed not because we know we've broken our relationship with God, but because we've been caught, and other people think poorly of us, or we're going to get in some sort of trouble... or the other type of worldly grief is where we feel guilty and ashamed over something that wasn't our fault, and that we have no control over (eg death of someone close to us, sexual abuse). Both types of worldly grief lead to death.

I recently listened to this really great sermon on the topic entitled "Good Guilt"
Oh, and I read this article yesterday: http://www.boundless.org/2005/articles/a0002004.cfm
The sermon is definitely better and more explanatory, but the article is shorter and easier to read.

ok, so today I saw this really cool Zambian vocal group. AMAZING!!! they sing tons of gospel songs. They sing in over 10 languages or something, idk, I can't remember all they said. But anyway, here's a link to some vids. Check 'em out. I know these vids are from a couple years ago, and they don't do justice to how amazing these guys are, but give them a listen anyway.http://video.google.com/videosearch?...&hl=en&tab=wv#
They also have a myspace, but I don't have the link. From what I can remember them saying, they work with orphans in Zambia who parents died from AIDS or malaysia or other causes. They have built a school there I believe also. They are really awsome!!
Yeah, so I just thought I'd share.

While you do bring up a good point about grief or shame, I interpreted her post as being grief and shame from a broken relationship with God. She said that Si was not ruling her life instead of God. That doesn't sound like she's ashamed cause she was caught by the world. She also said something to the effect of feeling separated from God and needs to get the connection back, I think. So, while you do bring up a very good point, I don't think it deals with this situation. (and excuse me if I was wrong when saying she, it took my computer so long to load this page that I totally forgot who the original poster was)

I was saying that her grief is the good kind of guilt, because it's the kind that leads to repentance. As in, God does want us to feel this kind of guilt.
Here's a link to a video I uploaded on youtube. It's the Zambian Vocal Group I posted about earlier. This video is better than the one's the other link takes you to. I recorded this video on saturday so it's newer. I think I have one more video of them on my youtube profile you can check out. In one of the videos you will hear them singing in another language. They are saying 'momma yo yo yo wowie" or something close to that which means, "oh look at what Jesus has done in my life wow" or something close to that.

hey guys just a quick plea for prayer. I'm going through a big rough patch with my faith, to the point I think I'm losing it, even the basics of Christianity. The devil is stripping me of my hope and determination, please any prayer or advice would be so helpful right now. thanks guys.

am Serenity and i walked away from God and got into wicca and then into Islam and now i have came back to God have been trying to stop si for a while the furthest i have gotten is 7 months....
at the moment am struggling with trying not to self injure but it isnt always under my own control as i have DID
I’m Christian too (Catholic) and have been my whole life. God has done so much good in my life… I feel horrible sometimes that I’m an SIer too, because He made me and I know that He wouldn’t want someone ELSE hurting me, so why would he want ME hurting me… I get really confused about it a lot. But I know that God lets things happen for a reason, and maybe he gave me this “cross” (depression and SI) to carry for the better. Even though I feel terrible all the time and just want it all to be over, I feel so good sometimes knowing that I can talk to other people with problems like me and I can UNDERSTAND them, (remember the song, “Make me the channel of your peace, so much to be consoled as to console, to be understood as to understand…”) I can sympathize with people like I never could before, and I figure that, someday, if I can find a way to get through this muck and this darkness, He will show me what my life is all about – what I was born to do.
Even if things can get pretty crappy sometimes, I know God never leaves – I’m the one pushing Him away. He’ll always forgive a repentant heart. God is the one Person who will never give up on you.
And that is my Light in my Darkness.
Ladybug I was about to write the exact same question and then realised you already had!
I suffer from depression, have symptoms of psychosis, I self harm and I struggle with grief/ loss stuff that is too long to explain here. So I have a lot of the "why me", "why do this to me when you're supposed to love me" type questions rattling around my head. I find it really difficult to let myself get closer to God when I feel so crap and bitter all the time.
