Apparently a lot of people are mean on here, but to be honest, I think a lot more people are overly sensitive. Myself included in the overly sensitive category about one specific thing really.
I don't think people are particularly mean, I think certain people tend to be honest, which then brings out the hypersensitive people from their wee cave.

I doubt it. I've reported posts before, only to talk to some of my friends to find out that they reported it also.

Well it breaks my heart to see you this way,
The beauty in life, where's it gone?
And somebody told me you were doing okay,
Somehow I guess they were wrong.

I think there's a big difference between being honest, and being sarcastic/rude unnecessarily. I've seen a tremendous amount of posts over the past fortnight where people are replying just to be downright rude. It's not necessary.

There's a way of wording things. I also feel many people "join in" to ridicule various members just to fit in, some people are obviously easily influenced on this website.

Sure, maybe you are being a bit sensitive at times, it happens. But I have to say, I'm noticing a lot of meanness too. People are being outright disrespectful, its shocking. I've seen people being undermined and in more than a few cases outright INSULTED, and the people who do this think "I'm just being honest" justifies it. Honesty is one thing and disrespect is another altogether, and saying you're "just being honest" is no excuse for being abusive. You're entitled to your "honest opinions" but if they're going to undermine or insult someone, I don't think that person wants to hear them, especially on a forum for sensitive and emotionally vulnerable people.

Please, show some respect.

Excuse me? Don't just throw that word around. If you think that what goes on here even comes near to abuse then you clearly don't know the meaning of the word.

I'm quite an honest person, and I'm not really ashamed of that, I think people need to be told things straight, if they have any chance at all. There's too much cotton wool. The line between being honest and being rude is a tricky one because it all depends on your personal definition of the words. Someone, hypersensitive person, might think that being told "You need to stop whining and get off your bum and actually do something, you're never going to get over this if you don't" is rude, but most will not. What goes on here is more honesty than people being rude, I think anyway, and it's just the super sensitive people who have yet to grow up who are kicking up the fuss.
Although, I know there are still times when people are being outright rude, just not as often as people make out.

Why does being super sensitive mean you aren't 'grown up'. Being bitchy and snide tends to be the more immature response. There are ways to talk to different people. If someone gets upset at something you've said and you didn't mean to upset them, it's not that hard to apologise and explain what you actually meant.

I totally agree with Fi on this one *nods*

I just have to add that some people use RYL as somewhere to vent off their fustrations as well at times and because of that sometimes the way they actually intend a post to be read isnt always what others read it as. This never actually reflects their true personality as they are probably really nice people in real life.

Its all down to the interpretation of words in a sentence really and yes I do agree some people are far too sensitive towards some honest opinions at times.

Things will be interpreted so many different ways by so many different people. You can ask everyone to be 'nice', but that's impossible. We all have our own personalities, some people are more sensitive than others.

If you feel offended, then say so.

If you're being supersensitive you're going to have a miserable time anywhere, people need to realise that you can't start crying your face off at every tiny thing that may or not upset you. Some people need thicker skin, some people need to stop mollycoddling people and just be honest.
Who is being bitchy or snide? Honestly, most of the time it's just someone being honest, NOT being horrible, and it's the person who they're talking to who takes it too far, because there are a lot of people on here who are so hypersensitive, a lot of people feel they cannot truly express themselves for fear of upsetting them.

It's the internet. Things don't always get read as they were intended by the poster. We don't have the ability of using tone of voice to determine how someone means what they say. Sarcasm rarely comes across well on the internet, I'm sure some straight talking doesn't always come across how it is meant.

I would much rather someone like Fi told me to get off my backside, stop wallowing in misery and do something to get myself better that if I don't do it no one can do it for me, than her trying to wrap me in cotton wool. Sometimes the truth hurts, and what is right and what it easy is rarely the same thing. People need to be told some harsh truths sometimes.

I'm hypersensitive, but I don't kick up a fuss about a lot of things. Sometimes people are hypersensitive because they are mentally ill, like me. I'm a lot more grown up than a fair few people on here. I'm just saying its not just the hyper/supersensitive people that need to grow up. Not all hypersensitive people are immature.

How many times did I say hypersensitive? :P
