Charities/Organisations

Does anyone know of any good charities or organisations that deal with homelessness and/or runaway children? I know of Shelter and of the Children's Society, but are there any others? I should probably say that being UK-based would help enormously, although the work doesn't have to be located within the UK.

Also, are there any groups that deal with forms of abuse? I only really know of Rape Crisis, but nothing for anything else.

I am totally clueless and any help would be great.

I did work experience a couple of weeks back at a place called Open Door, It's a voluntary organisation and it was like a café and a place to get counseling and help with paying bills, getting free food donations and a shower, just general things to help basically.
It was for homeless and poor people. And for all ages.

I'm not sure if there are any more anywhere.

And I can't think of anything else, sorry. =[

I'm looking for a good organisation to research. I just find it easier if it's something that goes along with my academic interests. If there was something nearby me (W. Scotland) then I would consider volunteering with them if I liked the sound of them, but it's mainly for research purposes and so as long as it's in the UK it doesn't matter.

ok, well there are a lot of different organisations, some quite specialised, some offer accommodation, some advice

if you click search all services, you can then choose the area (scotland, then your region) who the services are for, and what service.

It'll give you a list of places / services and then you could google the ones you're interested in for the organisation website.

Thanks, I will check that link out and see what I can come up with. Do you know anything about child runaway or abuse organisations? Anywhere where I can find that sort of thing. Google isn't being my friend today.

EDIT: That link has provided me with some good stuff. If anyone else has suggestions then feel free to post them, I have a day or two to decide on a final organisation to research.

Streetwork - do some work with Runaways (based in Edinburgh) also do work with homeless

porchlight is a homelessness charity, they are here but im the opposite end of our little island so i dont know about them in scotland, but you could try.
