I don't mind the ban in pubs and clubs and stuff. But what's annoyed me is the non-smoking in bus shelters, what else are you meant to do while waiting for a bus?! Often there's no one at my bus stop to be bothered by it and I've never smoked in bus shelters where others are anyway.
I don't feel it's been made clear where you can and can't smoke though because I wasn't aware of the bus shelter part until I was told off for it.

washington state where i live in the u.s. adopted that same policy about 1.5 years ago and it is b.s.. not only was the propaganda before the election something that made me want to puke. (i hate it when people think that i am as stupid as the general public, some of us are actually informed on how politics work.) they had people complain about having to work in smoking bars and stuff, well then get a new bloody job. most restaurants were already smoke free anyway. it should be up to the business owner what is allowed in his establishment. if you do not like it then patronize another place. well i could really start to rant if i do not stop. i already had to delete some more political stuff. well i can't wait till i get to alaska so i cn get into a smoking aa meeting again. and i rarely smoke and when i do it is just 1 cigar.

when the smoking ban first came into place in my town, i was very much against it. now, when it did happen i was also smoking, even though i no longer am. alot of businesses lost customers because people didnt like that they couldnt smoke inside anymore, especially at the pubs. now i think i am simply used to it for the simple fact that its been in place more than two years. i do like it alot more though. restaurants are cleaner, less people are sick from overexposure from secondhand smoke..less complaining from those that dont smoke..etc...
there are still some places i go, not in town, but if i am somewhere else in the state or out of state, where people can still smoke inside. and to tell the truth it does not bother me, its just different.

I love the ban - no going home after going out having to wash the vile stench of fag smoke out of my hair. Yippee!
About time too! People get life in prison for stabbing/shooting or strangeling others, but you can kill someone with second hand smoke and get away with it. Lovely! Not.

Bus stops are mostly sheltered, so does that mean that non-smokers should be made to move out from under the shelter (especially bad if it's cold or raining) just so people can smoke? Also, I know for me that 3 steps isn't far enough, it's still all smokey..

The ban annoys me tbh. But only because I don't like being told what I can and cannot do!
I'm a smoker and have gotten used to going outside for a cig, and its almost like a new social club outside.
I think the ban could have been a little different, for example why not let pubs decide on whether or not to be a smoking pub, maybe apply for a licence.
I sympathise with non smokers it isn't nice to inhale someone elses smoke and it does smell, but i think it would have been fairer to compromise.

well....you dont live in the same area as me,and where im talking about there is enough room for people to stand pretty far away from people who smoke and not get rained on.
right then move about a metre away and youre fine.its alright not smoking in enclosed spaces i get that but to stop people from smoking when they are basically outside with some plastic above their head is stupid and pathetic.its people realising that they can enforce their power and theyre going mad on it. the smoking ban also gets on my nerves because everywhere you go all the non smokers go on and on and on about it.....like thats really fab that you get to sit in a pub without smoke,its like...get over it and leave it alone,youre making me want a cig :P

What bugs me is you'd think the local councils would have put up more smoking bins/bins in general etc.

i understand not smoking in places like office building, hopsitals, and airports, but what bothers me about these bans is that they take away choice. in washington before the ban there were smoking bars and restaurants and non smoking ones. it was up to the customer if they wanted to go in or not. if an employee did not want to work there then they could get another job somewhere else. it was not a big deal until people decided that they wanted to tell others how to live their lives. taking away the choice is undemocratic.

and tbf, i don't smoke when i dance anyway.
i'd burn someone's eye out.
Smokers choose to smoke- so you choose to go outside, why complain about it. if you dont want to go outside the solution is simple - dont smoke or wait until your finished your food/drink etc. Im not really sympathetic for smokers, its your own faults you smoke at the end of teh day. i mean you hardly see junkies complaining they cant light up - or whatever it is called - in public (i realise thats extreme but im tired and frankly dont care)
to quote tracy from big brother - deal with it! whether you like it or not, the ban's here and theres nothing anyone can do about it, jsut take it as a chance to kickthat nasty habit! :)

Actually I tend to smoke mostly because it stops me from having panic attacks, which happens quite often, especially in crowded pubs or clubs.
Why should have no keep away from my favourite places because I know for a fact I'll end up having to go to hospital?

I used to smoke on nights out. It's like...a pint without a fag would be like cheese without jam. So it kinda annoys me that I can't do it anymore.
Although on the other hand it saves me money, I wasn't addicted so I can give up easily and it means I can go out and not have to wash my hair before I go to sleep =D
