Asking for help?

Hi, I rarely post and haven't been on here for a while, but i've been lurking about for around 2 years.
And I have a problem (hah, well we all have problems) I am constantly unhappy.
So much so it has now got to the point of shutting myself off from others.
I want to tell my doctor, (is he the right person to tell, or do I need someone else?)
I want someone to make it better, because i'm too weak to do it alone.
I had counselling, but it never worked for me.
But the thing is, i'm too shy to tell them such a thing.
I know they deal with stuff like this everyday, but I literally can't say it to him.
Plus, i've only had him once (I moved recently).
Any advice?
Or suggestions?
Also, is a doctor the appropriate guy?
Or do I need a specialist?
Thanks in advance.
x

We'll float on alright.

Yes, your doctor is the right person to tell. If you've had counselling and it didn't work before, maybe you didn't stick at it long enough, maybe the counsellor was the wrong one for you or maybe the method the counsellor used didn't suit you. In any case, the doctor can refer you to someone he thinks is appropriate...psychiatrists, psychologists etc.
Do you have anyone you can take with you for support? That can sometimes help if you are nervous. If you don't have anyone to go with you then writing things down may be helpful if you feel you wont be able to get it out in words. I wish you the best!

Telling your doctor is probably the best idea. You don't have to come out with everything all at once; you could just start by saying that you've been struggling a lot lately and maybe mention how counseling didn't help you feel better. Most likely the doctor will be able to ask some questions from there so that you don't feel so awkward.

PM me if you need anything <3
