When I first started seeing my old counsellor she reccommended it to me So I assume she thought goof of it.
But yeah I was already a memeber back then not that I told her that lol
You're entirely bonkers. But I'll tell you a secret. All the best people are.
My mh team don't know about it. Partly because I reckon they will assume it is for teenagers whereas I am 27 (and there are plenty of older people on here). The other reason is because I don't want them to disapprove of it when if it wasn't for getting used to posting on here I don't think I would have learnt to be open with them.
"Everything is possible through Christ, who gives me strength". Phillipians 4:13
I haven't told my mh team either, not sure why though. I guess i don't want to be told not to come on here
"Because you don't notice the light without a bit of shadow. Everything has both dark and light. You have to play with it until you get it exactly right."
i have told all the people i see about it!
i have to explain tho that we dont encourage sh etc and there are distraction pages too, and told the people at the maudsley that i was able to speak to people who had been to the maudsley so could give me idea what it was like/where to park etc
i dont think they necessarily think i tis a bad thing, but i do sometimes feel that they think i am on here cos i have no real life friends and it is a way to speak to people (ido have friends by the way, but you guys understand this stuff more:) )
xx
this pic is so i can always remember jen who was my l'il sock monkey friend who has left ryl and i miss her!!!
The psych and his SHO in Fulborn Hospital (the psych ward I went to in Cambridge) both know of RYL. They said "oh yes, we've a few patients who are members of that site".
PM me if you want a PDF copy of the ICD-10or the Mental Health Act 1983/2007. I ALSO HAVE THE DSM-V BOOK and am a pharmacology student.
I have a visual impairment / neurological problems so I need people to type in clear text and no funny fonts. Also excuse any typos, my vision blocks things out.
I have autism and have problems communicating, PMs included.
Just becasue I type well doesn't mean I speak well. I am only part time verbal.
my first few thought it was positive
recent one thinks its negative because it stops me having to talk to people around me. i can stick with internet people. lol.
I told both my support worker and doctor and once I explained what it was all about, they thought it was really positive. Althrough I have never told them my username or anything I still want that privacy.
"Recovery is something that you have to work
on every single day and it's
something that doesn't
get a day off."
My psych doesn't encourage me to come on here. She thinks it'll make my problems worse by reminding me of them (like I can even forget about them anyway!!).

I told a lot of people about RYL, my CPN and my therapist and my family know I come on here as well.
My CPN and my therapist think its a good thing but only after I reassured them that RYL was not a pro-SI site and encourages recovery.
Now however I am compeltely *paranoid* that one of them is going to come on here, find me and read my journal. I'm actually considering changing my journal to private I feel so paranoid now :-S

My CPN says the same. She says constantly being on a site to do with self harming is just making me think of it all the time, and sites like this normalise self harm.
I don't agree with the fact I get reminded of it all the time, I don't.
Possibly RYL normalises self harm to a certain extent, possibly because here it's something we all have in common rather than the outside world where not many people self harm.
Isn’t it funny how day by day nothing changes but when you look back, everything is different…
you once called your brain a hard drive, well say hello to the virus.
My psych thinks its a good idea. She says at least if shes unavailable for a chat I can talk to people on here. She also thinks that F&D is a great distraction. During one of my appointments, she had a browse on RYL on her laptop!
Back in the days of early recover, my dad came across the site and printed off the info for me and asked if I would take a look...I told him I already had joined! I was on ruin and kept it a secret intially.
So my dad was supportive at first, but I don't think my parents are too keen on RYL now. They listen to whatever the CMHT tell them.
