:) Well.. I would have to say 1/4 brat... 1/4 sweet heart, and 1/4 mischief...

Just kidding :) [although he has all those personality traits.. sorry.. I absolutely adore him]

His breeding is "American Quarter Horse" or Quarter Horse for short... I think the breed name came because they can run a quarter mile incredibly fast... but I'm not certain.

What's his time? Does he want to race at the drag strip?

LOL! I imagine we wouldn't do so well against the dragsters...
We've done some barrel racing in the past, but he much prefers an open field..

Ya, catching him can be quite a feat if he doesn't want to be caught... fortunately for me, he likes being caught most of the time...

Take care!

That is the typical response... I'm only 19, and I still get that idea of "only emo 15 year olds do that". I'm just like when I started cutting... there was no such thing as emo. I even had a BHT tell me I was doing it for attention in a hospital when she had NEVER talked to me! I've met many older adults in the hospital who self-harm... why is it ok for older adults to be suicidal, but not try and manage their feelings (albeit not the right way) with self-harm??? People need to educate themselves before they judge.

Yeah, I had two friends sitting either side of me in a lesson today. one drawing lines all over her arm and the other one sitting there with a ruler doing an impression. They were both like OMG I'M EMO AND THIS FEELS SO GOOD
and I wanted to slap them.

Sorry, that was slightly off topic but it shows people don't understand.

Yeah, I know people who have done for years and into adulthood

peace>x<reptiles= Yes that has always confused me too...why adults are automatically supposed to 'know what to do' and 'calm down'

conversechild= I would have gone nuts if that had been my friends...oh get a grip you losers (sorry that was unfairly judgemental). so fake SI with a ruler? *sighs*

Have a feeling I'm going to be one of them *sighs* especially when I move out of home and can get away with it allot more.

Yeah, the teacher who knows I do it was sitting at the desk looking at them... and me.

Yeah, one mate with a ruler and another with a pen. I thought they knew actually, but they mustn't have guessed.

Thanks for telling me...oddly their utterly tackless behavior has given me a better understanding of the perception of SH and what it is and isn't.

So sorry you had to go through it though.

The best one I got was how I had never learnt to dress properly as a teenager and therefore if I began dressing properly now - bright greens, yellows and pinks were recommended then I would automatically stop.

So basically when asked why SI happens answer my clothes made me do it!

I had a conversation with my cpn about this. It really really annoys me to be referred to as childish and stupid (something me and my cpn agree should not happen). I think someone said earlier in the thread that it refers to the common misconception about SI. I remember reading somewhere about SI in a psych txtbook (I used to work in a medical library) and it said in there it was extremely common in teenagers and there was no mention of older people. It was also regarded as a passing phrase too.

I know it is something our adult psych clinic have recently had meetings about - cos they are now realising it is something that people older than 18 do - previously it was ignored pretty much.

Hi there - I was drawn by your question on self harm in, ahem, older people and it has often bothered me> I am probably one of the oldest here at 48 (though with the mentality of a twenty something...!!) and it seems ludicrous to folk that I cut at my age. I guess it started when I kind of conquered chronic anorexia at 33ish. One form of self harm to another I supose. But it still annoys me the way it is so freely associated with teenagers and more particularly emos or goths - and that if is "cool" to cut. Some idiot on Yahoo answers once asked -what is all this SH nonsense about -why dont these emos grow up?! I need less to say was angry and tried to explain a bit but she represents so many .
I find it so hard to deal with and even more so because of my age - is that not wrong?

Hi Mogsy,

I am glad you found my question interesting. It has a question that has bugged me for awhile about all MH issues but SI in particular. 3 inches from the Edge posted this in another thread and my shrink give it to me once.

Thought it was cool.

We are male and female. We are artists, athletes, students, and business owners. We have depression, DID, PTSD, eating disorders, borderline personalities, bipolar disorder, or maybe no formal diagnosis at all. Some of us were abused, some were not. We are straight, bi, and gay. We come from all walks of life and can be any age. We are every single race or religion that you can possibly think of. Our common link is this: We are in pain. We self-injure. And we are not freaks."

I'm glad it's as simple as wearing bright clothes - soemthing to bear in mmind in the winter sales!

But its weird that when I was a teenager it was all 'it's a phase you're going through, you'll get over it'

then when you don't 'grow out of it' it becomes 'such an entrenched problem there's nothing we can do'

But then I've never yet met a MH worker who wasn't burnt out and trying to avoid hearing about peoples pain

Nice quote! Its a pity that people dont see us as jsut people instead of something from another planet - or as you said, "emos" or goths. Its a weird world! As we say in Scotland - "there's nowt so queer as folk..."
