Driving in NZ & Oz

Hello.
To anyone who has ever been to/ lived in/ travelled around/ set foot in NZ & Oz, can you please help me with some driving info.

I'm 19 and have had a full English driving license for about a year.

To hire a car in NZ & Oz, you have to be at least 21 in most places.

But if someone else hired a car, would I be able to drive it? Or would I be able to buy a car? Or is there another way of getting around the 21 thing?

I want to go travelling and I would love to drive...
Why wasn't I born 2 years earlier?!

Thanks.

Actually... to hire a car in most place in aus you have to be 25... just to make it so much more interesting for you

Also, you may need to have an international drivers licence though i'm not sure on that one. You can buy cheap ass cars here for about 500 bucks but not sure how reliable they would be for travelling.

I don't think you could drive if somone else hired the car as youwouldn't be covered by the insruance at all.

Only other thing I could suggest qould be to give some of the hire car companies a buzz and ask them

I live in Brisbane and I hired a camper van when I was 21. The insurance is kinda expensive, but if you dont have an accident you get most of it back. Most vans start from Aus$35.00 per day.

Check out this website...

For wicked camper in Nz, you have to be 21. It's 21 most places here i'm fairly sure. But you can buy one at any age. Especially if you go on trademe. CHEAP AS OI

I think you can hire a car in New Zealand if you're under 21. I looked at the website for the company I hired a car with when I was there last year and it will give you a quote for a driver who is 18-21 years old so I presume they will let you you one but it's probably a bit more expensive. The company I used is ACE
Hope you have a fantastic time!

In NZ its learners at 15, 6 months wait, then restricted then a 1.5 year wait then a full liecense. You have to be 21 to hire a car in NZ

If you plan to drive in NZ I suggest you look at the NZ driving laws are we have some that are a bit different.
