programmes on animal slaughter.

Has anyone else noticed that there are loads of programmes on at the moment about how animals are raised and slaughtered etc??

it makes me feel sick, actually physically sick but i dont have a choice about what we watch on tv in the evening so im on here and listening to music to drown out the noise.

what do people think off these programmes?

does it put you off eating meat?

i did only eat chicken and fish but i dont think i'll be eating chicken anymore either.

I've been watching a few of them, and I think it's interesting to see how the chickens are raised.
It doesn't really put me off eating meat, I'll probably just try and convince my mum to buy free range chicken from now on.

And the world spins madly on...

I've been vegetarian for 8 years, and I recently turned vegan so it still bothers me, but I don't feel like guilty about it.
It's put my family off a bit though

Call me a coldhearted person or something but I eat Finnish meat happily.. Well, in Finland animals are treated rather good comparing to southern Europe and so.. We have quite strict laws for that..
There have been some headlines for pigs and chickens in Finland lately last year.. But I've been visiting few pig places(have no idea what those places are called in English.. sorry) and seen chicken and turkeys too.. All places I've been in have been okay or even very fine.. But I know it can't be that way in everywhere.. Still..
I've chosen my way.. I'm studying for an animal care assistant and after I start to work I will take care of the animals I'm caring the best I can.. I won't stop eating meat or start to buy all organic food.. Sometimes I'm having days I buy organic food or so but as a student I don't have lot of extra money.. and also my family isn't so interested about it.. My father actually seems to loathe me when I buy an organic milk or something..

sorry for being me..

that kill it cook it eat it thing was on bbc three earlier..turned it off as soon as the eastenders credits started because I remember last time catching a glisps of it and I was actually physically sick. I love eating meat, I don't eat much/if any chicken but, beef, pork and lamb I like and although I know they're animals and have to be killed etc I don't really want to know or see *how* they kill them.

I totally agree. I'm a vegetarian, but to see what Jamie Oliver showed really upset me. Especially when the male chicks were gassed. It was awful.
I got annoyed by obnoxious people being all "I don't care for its welfare" or whatever. Assholes.

I always think at the time that it'll change me. I'll be 'moved' or whatever.

But then, yeah, no. I watched Supersize Me yesterday evening (not for the first time either) and thought, OHMYGOD, I'm never eating junk again. Then I had a hamburger from McD's today. Itwasgooood.

i watched it. i buy organic meat anyway so it doesnt really change my attitude but i did cry when the baby chicks were gassed.

what i dont understand is why they dont sell the baby boy chicks to the meat industry. surely its better than just killing them.

I was a piscaparian for ages and ages but have now given up fish (again). I'm not strict with myself sometimes I have never felt right about eating animals. Once you elevate yourself from being a human being and realise we are all just "Beings" on the earth. It is easier not to eat them for me.

i cant believe they can do that.
i dont like any of it.
i dont think animals should be killed really, in the world we live in now, we can survive without meat.

Agree.

I'm a massive meat eater, so programs educating the nation on where our meat comes from & how it gets into our stores hasnt put me off eating meat, although I buy organic anyway, much better quality & far less additives & preservatives put into them. I wont eat lamb though, that's the one thing that disgusts me about the industry, why kill the little animals? Surely they would be able to get more from letting them grow into adults before selling them for meat & whatnot.

food is the big thing for this year. people are getting concerned with diet and getting fit. so the tv companies are putting on a load of shows to show us where our food comes from and the conditions it gets kept in which is why it's so cheap.
we are so detatched from our food, these lumps of pre-prepared meat wrapped in plastic on a shelf, it's easy to forget where it really comes from. I like these shows and watch them with interest. it certainly hasn't put me off eating meat. it only put me off eating the cheap meat.
i find them very educational. for example on "Jamie's Fowl Dinner's" on channel 4 last night. i had no idea that chickens were kept in such horrid conditions, or large companies use battery farm eggs in their products. Or what assholes tesco are, hiding behind their customers saying "they're on a tight budget" as if thats an excuse to keep stocking these chickens and their eggs that have been through such horrid conditions.

all i can say is that there are many other channels so you could turn over. or put on a dvd. or if you don't have control over what channel is on tv then leave the room and read a book. there are many alternatives to sitting there and feeling ill.

Oh, can I point out that I disagree with the treatment though?

My family buys all our meat from a farm, it's all free range and has been cared for and slaughtered locally. =]

It shocks me to think some people don't know where the meat they eat comes from, they think that it arrives at tesco (where ever) and don't think about the process behind that, maybe I'm being a little narrow minded in the fact that I come from the country side so have always known where food comes from. As for the whole battery chickens and what not its upto you to make a difference, When at parents home we go to our local farm for eggs and things, like the shows have said its time to support local shops, farmers market they produce amazing food and really it is not that much more expensive.

(meh it doesn't make sense my reply my brain is a little messes up at the mo)

i think its horrible the way the chickens/ lambs/ cows etc were killed,
the conditions the chickens were kept in was upsetting.
i never thought i would be bothered about something like this.
but i cried and i cried alot.
its put me off meat big style.
ive also had arguments with vicky on whats humane (in the way of killing animals)
i am seriously thinking of becoming vegatarien.

how anyone can work slaughtering these animals i dont know...it makes me sick,

on a good note.
after watching these programs this week me and vicky have decided to adopt a spent hen. :)

Yeah I've noticed theres more than one programme being shown on the matter.

I think it might be due to the New Year being here and people making their resolutions etc.

Jamie Oliver's one last night was thorough on the matter on chicken slaughter but I hated seeing the chicks being gassed. It wasn't very pleasant to see. =(

owh. i've been watching a few of them.
and i can honestly say that yeahh, it's pretty horrible how the chickens live. but it doesn't make me want to rush and buy free range things.
i went to sainsburys with my friend yesterday and her mum asked her to buy a freerange chicken but its so much more expensivee. sigh. so she just bought a cheap one instead.

take what you love
