Grafts tend to be noticable too - it's not like replacing the area with perfect skin. One cosmetic surgical option is scar revision, where the original scar is revised and reclosed with a view to it healing better. This is only viable for a small number of scars, and again privately. There are other cosmetic treatments, but they will be costly and are generally not suitable for a large area or large number of scars.
I appreciate it's not very helpful in your case, but in the first two years, significant benefits can be made from use of silicone gel - I once used it on year old scars and it made a noticeable difference within a few weeks, and it still works well during the time the scar is pink/changing.
