sick of these scars...

so awhile ago my mom had me go to the doctor to see if the doctors could do anything about my scars, but they said that if i used any type a treatment they would get worse...i kind a wanna try coverin them up cause i hate hate hate seeing them day after day, and ive been triggered to cut many times by just looking at em. does anyone have any suggestions on something i could use to heal em?? or should i just do what the doctor said and not try to fix them sense treatment could make them worse??

I understand how upsetting it must be to look at yourself, see those scars, and feel yourself falling right back into that frame of mind. But those scars aren't anything to be ashamed of. Every one is a reminder that you're resourceful, self-sufficient and strong. After all, self-harm is a dead-end coping mechanism, but it takes guts to inflict actual harm on your own body. You have to be strong to break the cultural taboos and repeated warnings you receive as a kid against doing exactly that kind of thing. You have to want to help yourself so bad you'll do something that extreme in order to reach even temporary level.

I'm not celebrating self-harm at all; you of all people are well aware that it's addictive, destructive, and defeating. That's what you're posting about, kind of, isn't it? But there's also no reason to be ashamed of it. You didn't do anything irredeemably wrong; you saw an array of choices, and you made one, so now you're dealing with the consequences as best you can. Those scars stand for that decision. It might not have been great, but you're dealing with it, and growing from it. I say what's worth celebrating is the guts, ingenuity and tenacity it takes some of us just to get by.

Whether you try treatments, or cover them up, is up to you. But even if you cover them up, you'll still have the memories; this part of your life is always going to be with you. So you might as well decide how you want to own it.

Scars can be upsetting, especially if you find them triggering or they remind you of something bad that happened in the past.
What about bio-oil, have you ever tried that? I heard it works on some people, though it takes time to work, as most stuff does. prehaps give it a go? Good luck. x

I've tried many times to get rid of my scars but I can't bring myself to completely get rid of all of them. I feel like if I get rid of them part of me will be lost as well. Silicone sheeting has given me the best results in treating them. As far as I know there is no type of danger in using it either. Medical treatments will usually make it worse. Microdermabraison just made my scars red and irritated. And I've heard skin grafting will just leave more scars.

I use camouflage make up to cover my scars for work/holidays, called Dermacolour/Dermablend.. It's pricey but works really well lasts for 12-14hrs and is water proof. if you google dermacolour i think they have a website.

As for Reducing the appearance of scars, Bio oil is good but takes time, I don't know what the products are in the US though.

In the UK theres a scheme by the red cross where they mix the camouflage make up to match your skin tone. Again.. don't know if there is similar in the US.

Hope you find something thats right for you..

P.S. You shoulden't be ashamed of your scars theyre part of you.. But i understand theres reasons for wanting to reduce/cover them. x

So do whatever it takes
