Triggering (SI) - My therapist is stupid
I just got back from an appointment with my therapist it was the third time I've gone to her. She took my case knowing that I cut. The first time I went to her she told me as long as I'm not homicidal, then she doesn't care if I cut. I kept going to her because people told me to give her another chance, so I did. Today she told me to explain self injury to her because she doesn't understand it and can't help me until she does understand. Why the hell did she take me on as a patient all the while knowing that I cut?

Can you ask to see another therapist if you feel she isn't helping? You have a right to receive the best care for you.

I put it down on paper and then the ghost does not ache so much.

I'd get moved from her. It will only make you feel worse.

thank you, Lily, for saving mummy's life*. You are my one and only, you can wrap your fingers round my thumb and hold me tight, and you'll be alright.

Maybe she was asking to understand your self harm rather than self harm in general? If not, perhaps you could ask for a change of therapist?

She probably does understand about self harming in general, but asked you to tell her about self harming so she can understand why and when you are likely to harm yourself.
If she understands what self harm stands for and means to you then she is better able to help you, it may not mean she doesnt understand self harm fullstop.
My therapist asked me this question because now he knows what is going on for me when i cut and why i act this way. Perhaps if you dont know why you self harm she is going to work with you to gain some insight? As for saying she doesnt mind if you cut etc is good because she can obviously see that it is a beneficial coping mechanism at this time in your life.
