Does self harm come with being bipolar?

Or does being bipolar come with self harm?

Someone told me that everyone who self harmed had some sort of mental disorder, usually depression.

I'm confused. Does being bipolar mean I'll never beat self harm? Because it sure seems that way at the moment

I would say no to both questions paintingflowerswhite said.

There's people who SI, who don't have bipolar and also there are people with Bipolar who don't self harm.

If you want to beat self injury and find other ways of coping with bipolar then you will be able to beat it, but it does take time and determination and alot of hard work.

I think that although the two are connected one does not cause the other. it just means that because of the more extremes of mood you might ind it harder than some onewho for example only had depressioon because they can get rid of theri mods then work on it they have to take onyl one hurdle at a time. Keep tryin however and you can do it. good luck. x

I'm not functioning too well right now, so I probably won't even answer your question but please bear with me (is that how you spell it? as I can just imagine someone dancing with a bear?!):

My older brother is bipolar, he used to SI but has got over it (well he's still bipolar but doesnt SI).
I have loads of friends who used to cut, they don't have any mental illnesses, but perhaps histrionic personality disorder, but it's nasty to diagnose my friends *shuts up*, it was just considered the "trendy" thing to do.
So yeah, please excuse my babbling.

Although bipolar can in some cases lead to SI, I wouldn't say it has as strong as a correlation as you suggest.

I have been diagnosed with bipolar for quite awhile now. I used to SI, I've made it over 6 months with only one relapse so far.

It's very much possible to beat it.

good luck.

suport love.

What if everything around you isn't quite as it seems?
What if all the world you think you know is an elaborate dream?
What if you could look right through the cracks? would you find yourself afraid to see?
