im confused.

I went to my doctor today. i told her about the urges, but she didn't say anything about it. then i told her that my mood changes all the time and she asked me why and what triggers it. but i didn't know what to answer. nothing triggers it, it just changes. nothing happens, i just change from ok to low or whatever. is there always a reason for the mood swings?

also, sometimes i get annoyed by people based on silly stuff, like the way they look at me, or the way they walk, or when i look at them, and i don't know the reason behind this. i mean how can i explain why the way they look at me triggers me to feel annoyed by the person and feel angry about them? sometimes, just by looking at them triggers me to hate/love people. i couldn't explain that. am i being silly? am i overreacting? the way people look at me or similar things, doesn't have something bad, it just triggers me. how to explain that to her?

with the first paragraph, it depends. if someone has a mood disorder (like diagnosed depression or Bipolar) then it's possible for their mood to change without external triggers - it would be more to do with the brain chemistry.

but for almost everyone in the world, mood changes can have external triggers (like being stressed, or someone making you cross, or something frightening happening). sometimes we can't recognise the triggers though because we don't have the internal vocabulary to be able to explain what is going on. something that can help with this is counselling/psychotherapy, where you become more used to being mindful of what is going on for you and talking about things.

I don't think it's unusual to suffer from mood swings with no obvious trigger or catalyst. But could your doctor get you a referral to someone more qualified in mental health? As the previous poster said, therapy may be able to help in identifying triggers.
Take gentle care,

Sometimes there isn't a particular reason for a mood swing. Often, it may be something small that gets blown way out of proportion in your mind and causes a mood swing, and it may be something so small that you don't even recognize it as a trigger. And then there's simply brain chemistry.

Heyy,
You're not being silly or overreacting. It could be a number of things why you're mood changes. My does alot. I go from very happy to very depressed with no actually reason for the change. It could be anything from stress to just normal teenager mood swings. I don't think something 'HAS' to trigger your mood change, I think mood can completely change with no warning and no reason behind it.

I can relate to what you said about I get annoyed by other people for no reason, like the things they say/do, the way they look ect. I don't know the reason behind why I do this either. I think you should explain to your doctor how you've just explained it to us. I'm sure she understand what you mean. Take care, sweetie. xo.

Hi Irene,
I am suffering from extreme mood swings during most days- up to three times a day, too (because of BPD).
I often cannot say what caused these swings either but on most occasions, my mood swings are caused by my thoughts and memories.
Sad thought = very depressed, funny idea = very hyper, little thing that makes me p*ss*d = very aggressive.
Perhaps you could try to think about you know this mechanism, too.

Oh, yeah, sometimes little things make me think different (extremely different) about a person again. On some days, I think really bad about someone and on other days, I like the person a lot.
So, better try to not make any quick decisions like saying to a person that you don't want to see her/ him anymore.

Hugs, feel free to contact me anytime,
Judith

i dont tell them i dont wanna see them anymore because i dont want to hurt them. so i prefer to suppress my feelings than upset others. since i know that i will like them again, i cant tell them because i dont want them to leave me.

what kind of little things trigger you to think really bad about a person?
