Well done for getting to the doctors…in many ways that is the hardest part over. I know that it can be stressful and how you don't feel great afterwards but the best thing is to try and give yourself some TLC.

You have done the right thing and good luck with the councillor.

Well done for going! Its a really big step. Hopefully when your new medicine starts to work, things will pick up a bit and at least now you have some support.

*big hugs*

Why don't you try ringing/emailing the samaritans? http://www.samaritans.org/

Well done on going to the doctors =]

The anti-depressants probably won't start to work for a few weeks and I know that the waiting is tough but just try to hold on to the fact that you have started the process and that help is on its way (soon).

What are the AD's?

It seems that these things always come with scary lists. The important thing to remember is that the adverse effects will only apply to some people and that some will be rarer than others. You would have to be pretty unlucky to get them all.

The meds I am on gave me nausea at first (which is gone now), made concentration impossible (which has subsided somewhat), made me sleepy (not as bad now) and if I take them too late at night I can't sleep (so I take the night ones earlier).

The best thing to do is to start taking them and see what happens. Maybe Fluoxetine isn't right for you but you won't know until you try it. It seems from other posts that getting meds right can take lots of trial and error but they are supposed to help you. Just stay mindful of the side effects and if they are causing a problem go back to your GP.

Ok…so if you start the meds tomorrow that's (only) six days and you don't even have to make another appointment (because you already have one).

Just try not to worry too much, unless the side effects are serious.

Reading the side effects is generally a bad idea! Psychologically your brain latches on to things and then you start to get anxious at things that normaly you wouldnt think anything of!

Side effects are a problem with some antidepressants, but not all people get them and rarely do individuals get them severely. Like when you start any new medication, your doctor will want to monitor you closely and support you to make sure they are having a beneficial effect and that you are responding as you should. So its important you tell her if you do have any unplesant symptoms. There is also always the option of coming off them if at any time you feel they are making things worse.

That is most definitely a good thing and five hours is a good start. You have had a rough day…try and do something nice for yourself like [fill in the blank].

hey, i was on fluoxetine for a little while. i wouldnt worry too much about the side effects, the main ones that i has were sweating and feeling sick.
i did have to come off them becuase i was sooooo sick but was with the same with other ssri that i tried too. im on something completely different that i dont get any side effects.
the problem with side effect lists is that they have to write down any side effect that has been reported.
so dont panic they can alter them if needed :)

well done for going to the dr's and being honest, i hope you get an appointment with the cousellor soon adn hopefully the ADs will kick in over the next week

takecare xx

this pic is so i can always remember jen who was my l'il sock monkey friend who has left ryl and i miss her!!!
xx
