hi guuyys (:
im always posting questions.. :D
this time.. im a bit worried about my AS english lit courswork..
ive kinda gone waay over the word count..
my teacher pointed that out to me, and then immediately added ‘oh, but its too late to do anything now.’
GRRR.
so i was wondering,, how greatly will this affect the mark??
what happens…??
do they cut off the over the limit words at the end of your essay?????
one of my friends said they do ):
or do they just like,, say that you cant make your work concise,, and mark you down???
ahhww.. im scared ):
xxxx
I want to know how you went over? Is there a trick? because i must have written a hundred essays and i struggle to hit the word count!!! I HATE essays.
Anyway, I think it depends how much you went over by. I wouldn't worry if its not too much. I think for my english coursework 2 years a go it was 1800 words and we could go 200 words either way.
I don't know about English, but for my coursework in Chemistry they mark up to the word count. Anything beyond isn't even looked at. It may be different for you, I don't know..
word limit was 2500..
i went like 800 over :/
thats really really bad ):
and.. the final draft has been handed in with the actual word count at the bottom...
oh gosh.. i think im screwed )':
i shouldn't think it would be too much of a problem, i'm only sitting English Language because I'm doing it a year early but they basically told us that for A/S it doesnt matter
Change has a considerable psychological impact on the human mind.
To the fearful it is threatening because it means that things may get worse.
To the confident it is inspiring because the challenge exists to make things better.
To the hopeful it is encouraging because things may get better.
Well, I'm in Scotland doing Advanced Highers, so it's different. But for my History dissertation, if you go one word over the limit, you lose 20%, for the others you can go 10% over without losing marks.
If you really want to know, the exam board website will probably tell you. But if you can't do anything about it now, it's not really worth worrying about.
" my precious, precious child, I love you and I would never, never leave you during your times of trials and suffering. When you see only one set of footprints it was then that I carried you" you were carried out of are lifes into the next and when its my time to leave this life I know i will be carried into the next life with you.
I wish i had my world complete again.
'Can we protend that airplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars, i could really use a wish right now' BoB
I was always over the word limit too, got a bit panicked over one that was more than 10%, and they ignored it! But normally up to 10% over is okay. You're a bit over that, but like Mesmerized said - it's in, you can't do much about it now, so concentrate on something else. I'm hoping your qualification won't rest on a word count.
Take care

Don't worry, it shouldn't matter for English. I was about 500 words over in my AS English Literature coursework and got full UMS marks. I was a few hundred over in AS English Language coursework and got 86/90.
I'm about 1500 words over this year on my English Language investigation, and 1000 words over on my Literature coursework. oops.
ooh i do AS english lit too.
basically they stop reading at the point you went over.
however i think it's all lie really, because they're not going to sit there and count every word, because they're lazy.
if they weren't you wouldn't need to put a word count down.
plus i went over on my sociology coursework, and it was me that noticed it on my second draft.
none of my teachers picked up on it.
and basically i lied about the work count on my sociology coursework.
ANYWAY it won't affect your grade too much, if at all.
On my uni course which i know is different than AS stuff but my tutor told me that if he thinks it is too short or too long that he will sit there and count the words.I am unsure if it is the same kinda thing for AS
