Mirtazapine
I just started taking this, yesterday in fact, after coming off fluoxetine.
i know one of the side effects is drowsiness, but how long is this supposed to last? i took it right about 7pm yesterday, and fell asleep within an hour. i've also only just got up a few mins ago. is that normal?
i'm just worried about taking it tonight, in case i never get up for college.
also even if i did wake up, i feel really odd, as if i keep slipping in and out of my own body and a bit dizzy. which isn't really helpful when i have a huge project due in next week!
thanks in advance

hey, i've been on mirtazapine it made me drowsy too wich was good coz i needed to sleep. how was your sleep pattern before you went onto these meds?? maybe your body just needed the sleep? or the dosage might be wrong. i know that starting new meds n stuff can take a litle time to get used to but i see what your point is about not getting up on time for things. but you shoudl take it because stopping taking them doesnt help your body.
sorry thats probably not a lot of help at all. xxx

thanks for the reply. :)
before i had a bit of trouble getting to sleep, and would normally wake up really early in the morning too.
i thought it might have been that too, my body catching up on sleep. but i dunno.

ive been on mirtazapine for ages, it really works well for me. I didnt really get the drowsy side effect, just the restless legs one, which is a really bizzarre feeling.
drowsiness should get less the longer you take them as your body gets used to them.

I've been on mirtazapine 2 and a bit years.
The intense drowsiness I found wore off once I doubled the dose to 30mg. It's more sedative at a lower dose, you see.
Are you still on 15mg?
I was to double my dose after a week. It was then the intense drowsiness settled. Now it just relaxes me and helps me sleep. And takes the edge off things during the day.
I would suggest maybe trying to take it a bit earlier. Some early nights for a week or so while you're getting used to it won't do you any harm.
And if this persists get back to your dr or psychiatrist and see what they reccommend. :)
