Triggering (Suicide) - what does it mean?

I didn't know where to post this so i hope im not in the wrong place.Well i went to my psychotherapist today and we talked about stuff and i told her that i want to die and the only reason that i haven't tried it is because i don't wanna make my parents sad.and she said that if i don't wanna live anymore she has to send me to a psychiatrist because as she says she only works with people who want to live and im depressed and everything.

what does this mean?it means that i went to the wrong person?she didn't tell me that she will send me she said that i have to make clear in my mind ifi wanna live or not and tell her.

please i need some support or advice.i don't know what to do.

a psychiatrist can be helpful if it is what you need!

Well the most important thing in a persons well being is their own attitude. All the therapy in the world cant help people if they have given themselves over to despair and futility. I am not saying you have, but your therapist might think shes not going to be able help you with what tools she uses. When a therapist transfers a kid over to a psychiatrist it usually means the therapist either doesn't want to bother with talk and/or thinks they dont want to risk a delay - and wants to get the psychiatrist to have the kid on medication.

In any event I would not take anything personal. Therapist might think you need more than she can deliver unless she sees you haven't abandoned yourself to a gloomy fate. Its hard to talk to people who aren't ready yet. I still dont like meds much though as alternative but thats what they do.

Funny but one pattern I have seen a lot of is one where a kid starts showing problems in school and a teacher takes notice and tries to talk to student. The teacher then backs off and refers kid to nurse or guidance counselor - who takes a shot and then sends a kid to therapist. The therapist tries their bit and when that doesn't work the kid goes to shrink for a pill. When that doesn't work the psychiatrist can tell the parents there is nothing they can do (maybe call the kid a "borderline"). Then its not unusual for the kid to be sick and tired of being sick and tired and they discover a strength they didnt know they had and they end up getting better on their own lol.

she doesn't have a problem with me its just that if i want to end my life then she can't do anything about it as she isn't a psychiatrist and she can help people who want to live or else there is no point.she didn't say that she will send me to someone else coz she can't handle me but if i don't want my life anymore she will have to coz she can't help me.she mentioned that she likes me very much and that she wants me to be ok.

as i said before tell her how u feel.
try and explain where the suicidal feelings are comming from but that your will to live is stronger/less!
honesty is always your best option so that you get the help you need!
you could even find out if it is possible to still see both of them at the same time. i was able to see my psychiatrist and psycologist at the same time! xx

well i talked to her and she told me that she doesn't want to send me to a psychiatrist without her trying the best.she will take it as the only option when there is nothing else.she made me promise her that i wouldn't kill myself.it was like an agreement.she won't send me to a psychiatrist if i promise her that i won't try it.so i did, but now i somehow regret it.

why do u regret making the agreement??
its comming up to christmas....please be strong hun for yourself!!
life changes and can get better. you are still young and have so much to live for!!
just make sure you keep talking about how you feel and speak to someone straight away if you think suicide is becomming more likeely.

ok well if the feeling becomes more severe and u think u will do it please talk to someone first. im going to have to go offline now but i hope u will be ok and others will be on to talk xx

What she means is that not that you have the wrong attitude but because you are show deep in depression a psychatrist is better trained for treating it and maybe will give you a course of drugs. She really sounds like she wants whats best for you. Give the psychatrista go for a little bit just to see if it really does help or not.

i won't go to a psychiatrist because i like her and since i made that agreement she won't have to send me to one.I asked her when i talked to her on the phone yesterday, if im depressed or not and she told me she can't know for sure but i have some signs of depression.but she told me that she won't give up i mean she will try to help me and after nothing works then she will send me to a psychiatrist.
