something that i know helps a lot of people, try to tally up all the days over the past 3 months that you have cut, against the days that you havn't cut. compare them and see, it may help you feel stronger, knowing that you can do it, and you have done it in the past, you can stop for good.
we all screw up sometimes... some of us more than others, me? i screw up all the time! i admire your strength for going as long as you did.
well take care hun, just do your best (we can't ask for more than that)
oxoxox
somewhere in this darkness there's a light that I can't see, maybe it's too far away...
I used to have the same sort of problem, I'd slip up, then instead of seeing it as a slip-up, I think it meant I wouldn't be able to fight urges next time, so I'd slip up again.
You have to believe that you can fight urges next time you get them. If you think you "know" you're going to cut again, then you probably will. If you use this as a chance to identify what your trigger was this time, and why the urges were too strong to fight, you can try to avoid the triggering situation in future and start thinking of ideas to help you deal with your emotions is a healthier way next time you find yourself triggered/getting urges.
You've already proved you can go 2/3 months without cutting, what's stopping you from doing it again? In fact, I sometimes find that slip-ups help me realise how much I want to recover from SI, so why not aim for 4 months this time?
Everyone always say "And try to stay strong...Try not to slip up again" but if you know it will happen again why would you want to hear that? The 29th will be my three months, and right at this second I am thinking about giving up, so I know where you are, almost to the exact point. Cutting is a control and healing thing for us. And it's okay. There's nothing wrong with that, because it is what we know. My opinion when people slip up is because they're not ready to recover. And that's alright, just start over when you're ready. I'm not encouraging you to cut every night, but I am encouraging you to do healing at your own pace.
Last SI: March 1st 2008
Before that: September 29th, 2007
You're a strong individual, and slip-ups are a part of recovery. Try to acknowledge that you did cut, and yes it was a relapse. You have to believe that you want recovery just as bad as you want to SI. I hope this has helped some. Take care. Stay safe.
