These might result in some lengthy posts but give it a shot
My musical taste generally revolves around the Electronic genre-- I'm a huge fan of Boards of Canada, The Flashbulb, Aphex Twin... which is I guess a mix of really intense electronica and some ambient stuff in the mix.
However I'm way more into ambient music and minimal techno (a mix of the two in the same genre)-- artists like Yagya, GAS, Deepchord/Echospace, Secede, Steve Roach, Robert Rich, Solar Fields, Burial...
Then there's some more guitar oriented artists that I simply love as well. The "One Time For All Time" album by 65 Days of Static, Godspeed you! Black Emperor, Sigur Ros [big time!!!], Mum, Helios, Hammock.
I like everything from EBM/Industrial/Aggrotech so Combichrist, Suicide Commando, Funker Vogt, VNV Nation, Covenant. To classical such as Enya, Vivaldi, and Bach. And then everything in between such as the Smiths, Placebo, Muse, Malice Mizer, Queen, Patrick Wolf.
Some of my favourite songs:

Some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money.
They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned or negotiated with.
Some men just want to watch the world burn.
I'm a mega eclectic person. I range from Chart stuff like lady Gaga and N dubz to stuff like Adam Lambert, Cradle of Filth and Children of Bodom. it really depends on what I'm in the mood for.

I was about to say "eclectic," but that isn't really true. My musical taste is kind of fluid; I fall in love with certain bands, start to hate them a few months later, then maybe a year after that I rediscover them. At the moment I'm listening to a lot of Frank Zappa and Steve Vai (Zappa is experimental without being pretentious, mainly because he doesn't seem to take himself all that seriously. Vai is the only guitar virtuoso I know of who actually has any musical sensibility - his music is very melodic; the fact that he can play at superhuman speed is just a nice bonus).
I'm a huge fan of the blues, and have been since my dad introduced me to the genre when I was a kid (it's one of the few genuinely good things he's ever done for me), especially blues guitar; when I took guitar lessons, folk and blues were the first things I was taught, so I have a certain respect for it. I'm a huge fan of Stevie Ray Vaughan, B.B. King and Eric Clapton.
Other than that, as I said, my taste varies from time to time. I've been known to listen to Lady Gaga, Motley Crue (who I currently hate), Joy Division (who now bore me to tears), Tom Waits, Metallica, Mozart... almost anything really, so long as I'm in the mood for it.
I have an eclectic taste - the music on my iPod ranges from opera/classical, to country (I'm listening to a lot of Johnny Cash, Fleetwood Mac & Dolly Parton right now), to Chart music, all the way to heavy/death metal. I won't listen to urban, dance or R&B though, purely because I think it is ****.

I listen to tons of music, and honestly love most of it regardless of genre. But to be counted among my favorites, there has to be something special/weird/different about it. Some of these include:
