Acting. I have had the serial misfortune of having to work at her show every single time she comes to my work. I see first hand the upset she causes to people and the tricks she uses to hide that she's just making it up. It really is amazing how the 'wrong' person will come forward (and be asked to stay standing), but two minutes later after she's done with the 'right' person the spirit for the others will come forward. It happens every time too. And all these spirits are happy and in heaven. Astonishing.
I really do despise these people who make money out of exploiting vulnerable people. Derren Brown can do exactly the same thing (but better because he doesn't put on a high-pitched child's voice), and he's not psychic.
I do hold some believe in the paranormal because of personal experiences and people I know and trust. However those on the TV are simply exploiting. Until any of them can prove without doubt that they have the capabilities then I don't give them any credence.
I suppose, though, that there has to be a degree of the guests 'wanting' what happens to happen. Which is sad from both sides.
Definitely acting. I really dislike people like this. They can cause people so much hurt. My mum told me that a little while after my sister died, a 'psychic' rang her up and said "I know your daughter has died and she has a message for you", to which my mum replied "She was one month old, how could she even speak!" and hung up the phone, but the conversation really upset her =/
'Psychics' are the lowest of the low in my opinion. It's bad enough that they're all fraudsters, however it's made even worse by the fact that they deliberately prey on emotionally unstable people who've recently experienced the loss of a loved one.
You see them making up stories about how the persons loved one is in the room, how they're smiling and at peace, how they can see them. It's despicable.
Some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money.
They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned or negotiated with.
Some men just want to watch the world burn.
As a flip side: My gran claims to be a 'psychic'; she does tarot card readings and gem healings (although she doesn't 'speak to the dead'), and I think she believes in it. I'm as cynical as they come in regards to it, but it's a tricky one. She's not a fraudster, she's not out to get money or to scam people - she genuinely believes in what she's preaching.
I think the dangerous and conman bit is the 'I can speak to your dead relatives' spiel. That's when it's just preying on vulnerable people. But,
not all 'psychics' are just out to scam as many people as they can.
Tarot, horoscopes, star signs, fortune telling - I don't believe in any of it, but I know that some people do.
I do the tarot, i won't say i base my life on it, but when i'm having a bad patch it can comfort me, does that make sense? like a faith in god or similar.
i don't like this idea of preying on vulnerable people though.
I don't really mind 'fortune tellers', because that can be a bit of fun. I think that's different than mediums, even though the tickets are sold as being an entertainment show, it's not really. Obviously the danger with fortune tellers is that people take it to heart and then alter their life to suit it.
Sally Morgan and her like disgust me though. There was one poor women who basically had to announce to a crowd of 2000 people that she had been raped. And one family whose son had killed himself was told because it was because of his sexuality.

It's like a lot of different beliefs, religion in particular, when money or vulnerable people get involved then it becomes very ethically dubious. Someone finding patterns in the tealeaves of their friends is the kind of personal expression of a belief which is fairly innocuous, but when psychics con huge sums of money out of the bereaved it's like cases where dodgy churches have been "donated" huge sums of money by people with learning disabilities or things.
Actually, thinking on it, it's the monetary bit in general that I have a big problem with. If a psychic believes they have a calling to connect people with their dead relatives, then why're they charging wadloads of cash for it?
Research cold reading and watch Derren Brown explain it. On Derren Brown Investigates, one of the programmes was about a stage medium. One of the methods he uses is simply repeating things back to the person getting the reading that they have previously said. So if they mention a grandson, twenty minutes later the medium will incorporate that information in but make it sound like new information and it sounds impressive.
Isn’t it funny how day by day nothing changes but when you look back, everything is different…
you once called your brain a hard drive, well say hello to the virus.
I do Tarot/angel cards and have tried crystal healing, it's very much a personal thing for me and they help me through bad patches. But I know a lot of people think it's bullshit and I can accept that.
I'm not really sure about what my opinion on mediums is, although obviously if they are exploiting vulnerable people and out to make money that's just wrong.
Acting.
I don't believe in life after death etc etc
...if someone really was psychic then I doubt they'd be able to switch it on for the purposes of a tv show.
The audience gives away answers by their body language. And they adapt what's being said to their own lives. The 'psychics' are clever in that respect but still exploiting vulnerable people... Or maybe the 'psychics' really believe they are psychic!
I won't believe it until I hear a message from the dead that no one else could possibly know
"By the way,
Why is it OK
For people to pretend they can talk to the dead?
Is it not totally f***ed in the head
Lying to some crying woman whose child has died
And telling her you’re in touch with the other side?
That’s just fundamentally sick
Do we need to clarify that there’s no such thing as a psychic?
What are we f***ing 2?
Do we actually think that Horton Heard a Who?
Do we still think that Santa brings us gifts?
That Michael Jackson didn't have facelifts?
Are we still so stunned by circus tricks
That we think that the dead would
Wanna talk to pr*cks
Like John Edwards?"
You are a wonderful creation.
You know more than you think you know, just as you know less than you want to know.
My aunt went and saw her and got called out. My aunt said nothing to her (this was in a crowd of many many people) and Sally told her the name of her best friend who had hung herself (she said the girl's name, her relation to my aunt & that she committed suicide without my aunt's input) and then also got her friend's (who was with her) mum and got the name dead on & what she used to call her, like her nickname.
She got it all exactly correct, it makes me wonder...
