Triggering (SI/Substance abuse) - question regarding my 15 yr old sister

hi,
i don't live with my sister but i know she has been abusing drugs...mostly "meow" or mephedrone...she has said she hasn't done it in a couple of weeks...i've got her to promise me not to ever touch it again...whether she keeps the promise i don't know.
i know she smokes weed... but that's another issue.. i'm not too concerned about that one.

basically i am wondering if anyone knows if it's a physical addiction or mental addiction?

hope you guys can help :)

i found this cause i've never heard of that.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mephedrone

It does sound like it is dangerous and not good for her, and it looks like it is illegal in the UK but not in most parts of the US. I didn't even know about this drug but yeah does anyone know she is abusing it? 15 is so young to be using any substances, even legal ones, let alone ones that are described like this. I definitely think you should tell someone who takes care of her (parent, etc.) if they don't know. I don't entirely understand how bad this drug really is just from wikipedia of course, but even marijuana use at such a young age can really lead to much harder drugs as she gets older. I think it's good you're looking out for her. Maybe also see if she wants to talk about what she is getting out of using drugs, as that might get her thinking about healthy ways to feel good and whatnot without putting harmful (and illegal) stuff into her body.

It was just recently made illegal in the UK after some guys died from it. It gives you the same effects of a certain drug but without any negatives (for certain people anyway). So I guess, aside from the fact it's illegal and just as dangerous as any other drug, if you have good experiences with it then yeah it could be mentally and physically addicting.

I'm not telling you it's going to be easy, I'm telling you it's going to be worth it.

Mephedrone can become physically addictive, but she would need to have been using it regularly. It is mentally addictive in that it's common to feel the urge to take more and more after the first 'hit', so people can end up taking much more than they intended to. It is dangerous though. No-body really knows what the long-term side-effects of it are and it has been linked to several deaths. It's now been made illegal in the UK.

There are, it has been said, two types of people in the world. There are those who, when presented with a glass that is exactly half full, say: 'This glass is half full'. And then there are those who say: 'This glass is half empty'.
The world belongs, however, to those who can look at the glass and say: 'What's up with this glass? Excuse me? Excuse me? This is my glass? I don't think so. My glass was full! And it was a bigger glass!

i'm glad it's been made illegal...i think i was one of the first to know it was made illegal...but the only problem with that is that dealers will put worse sh*t in it now.
she has promised she won't touch it, but i don't seem to have much influence on her as i'm not exciting enough...ha...makes me feel old

Its very dangerous by the sounds of it, people died before it even got famous and used widely, i have used it once before and urge others not to try, it mimics mdma and is addictive for short periods, usually because people feel like crap on the comedown so will keep dabbling with it. The problem is its so widely available, even here in uk people stocked up knowing it was going to be made illegal soon. Do what ever you can to talk her out of it, maybe find some news articles on google and send them to her. Dont want to send you in a panic, She'll be ok im sure but its always safer than sorry.

I thought they proved only one person actually died as a result of taking it? In most cases it was only linked to the deaths, either from dehydration or mixing with other drugs and stuff. If its in your system and you die, the media totally hyped it out of proportion.

Though its true, the problem with mephedrone is its very more-ish, and it could be easy to lose track of a "safe" dosage. Regardless, a 15 year old shouldn't be taking drugs like that. And while mephedrone/methylone/cathinone analogues are now class B, it won't be long before something else pops up, assuming something already hasn't. Mephedrone was slightly more "safe" since it was related to MDMA and khat, chances are the next thing that comes around won't be quite so close, so make sure she doesn't get a hold of any if possible.

Wake me up before I change again
Remind me the story that I won't get insane
Tell me why it's always the same
Explain me the reason why I'm so much in pain.

I'd be more worried about the weed. Check out how strong it is. My friend melted his brain by smoking skunk before his brain had stopped growing (age 21 I think). He wasn't even smoking that much but if you're succeptable to it it can ruin your brain for life.

Always look on the bright side of life.
