Well first off, I would listen to your doctor in this and not attempt to do something that neither of you feel that you could do comfortably. It would most likely add to your already troubled state and could negatively effect your treatment. I wouldn't attempt to go into a situation that you know you can't handle. And when you are feeling brave and are willing to give it a try, again I would talk with your psych before making any commitments.
As for social security in Texas, that I'm not sure of. I'm sure your psych would be able to help you out in that area, and you may qualify for disability as well. Then again, I'm not sure of the legalities of it all in Texas, so you'd have to talk with your psych and he can most likely help you apply for both.
