My name's Sonia and I'm new to this forum. I only came across it tonight when trying to find some sort of help/support for self-harmer's.
I'm 28 and have been a self-harmer on and off since I was 16. I did go through about 6 years in that period where I didn't do it at all, and then about 4 years ago I relapsed and have been doing it on and off since.
I don't want to be a self-harmer, I just don;t know how else to cope when I reach the point of doing it. I've not yet found anything else which gives me the same release and relief that self harm does and I get frightened that I won't be able to cope if I don't do it any more.
I have arms full of scars that I have to keep covered as not everyone around me is aware of what I do. It's hard having to hide all the time, but my family would never understand. My mum is so 'no-nonsense' and my dad is good intentioned but completely clueless!
This is why I have turned to the forum for help. I'm very isolated and alone in my struggle and I really want to find people I can connect with who understand self-harm and what brings a person to do it.
Hi there Sonia, welcome to the site :) hopefully you find the support you're looking for, which I'm sure you will, considering everyone I've met here so far is really nice and caring :) don't be afraid to reach out and share your thoughts, I and others here would love to help out!
Take care,

Sometimes, you find yourself in the middle of nowhere; and sometimes, in the middle of nowhere, you find yourself.
I'm sorry to hear you are struggling with self harm at the moment, but I hope you can find all the support you need from here. There are lots of articles on the main site about self harm, as well as an article designed for parents, friends etc, if you ever decided you wanted to tell them. There is also the Self Injury Discussion and Support forum where you can post and ask for help/support regarding your self harm.
Welcome to RYL, I hope you find the site helpful and supportive. I think the others have covered it really but if you ever want to chat about anything feel free to PM me, take care x
