Medication Roulette
So for the past year or so I've been on 3 different antidepressants and two different antipsychotics (or as my psych calls them "mood stabilizers"). I've also been seeing a therapist every other week since February, and it wasn't until last week that I told her about my SI. We talked a lot about it and she asked if she could talk to my psych about it. My psych and therapist are in the same place. Today I go to see my psych again and I just know he is going to mess with it, either by upping my dose or changing medications completely. This is getting so frustrating and annoying, all of the medicine works wonderfully at first, but then it plateaus and then I start feeling worse. I understand it takes a while to get the right medicine and the right dosage, but I am so tired of this run around. Anyone else feel like this?

oh yep i'm getting really fed up of my meds atm as well. If you don't want them changed then say so. they can't make you take a medication or up a dose if you don't want to. you are in charge so maybe write down anything you want to say or think about a comprimise you might be willing to make. try not to get angry at them, keep your head and reemmber you're in control.

Well the thing is I am willing to change them, I want to find what works, but going through all the different meds and dosages takes a toll on me. Changing to completely different meds make me extremely moody and I can't stand it. I completely trust my psych and if he thinks upping it or changing it would be best I trust him because he is the doctor after all, I'm just tired of the quest of finding the right medication.

Yeah I understand how frustrating it is. I was medicated first when I was 13, I'm 22 now, and we've been through practically all of the meds related to my illness and they haven't worked.

I sort of understand your frustrations as I was in a similar situation a few years back. We'd try a medication and continue increasing the does until it was either decided it wasn't working well enough or the side-effects got too bad.
When I sat down to write a list of the psych meds I'd been on in the past for a new doctor I was shocked when I listed seven different antidepressants.
I know it's frustrating but the different classes of antidepressants work in different ways and it's trial and error what works for each person. It's difficult though to accept that it may take some time, when while your not on a medication that works for you your quality of life isn't as good as it could be.
Take care

Well he decided to up the dosage of my meds so that's not too bad, all that will do is just make me a little sleepy.
