Can CPN's see all your medical records?
I was just wondering if CPN's/Psychiatrists have access to their patients full medical records or just their mental health ones?

Push will get a person almost anywhere except through a door marked “pull".

I would say it would only be your mh records, though I could be wrong.

They can access anything in theory. In practice they are unlikely to bother.

My medical record was sent to my psychiatrist. It's in the back of my file.

Pretty sure it's only your mental health records unless they have a specific reason to want to see your medical notes. They should really discuss that with you first.

Generally speaking a GP is who refers you to a psychiatrist so they would send through a referral form with relevant history, however your physical health wouldn't be reported unless it had a compounding affect on your mental health issues. Psychiatrists and GPs can work together to determine various conditions - so a psych may order a physical health test and ask for the GP to have access to the results and respond accordingly.
But to be honest, I think it would only benefit you if your psychiatrist was aware of all your physical health history as it could be a contributor to your mental health experiences, even if you don't think so.

I found it depended on what system each area uses.
Where I am now, everyone sees everything (i.e, care co-ordinator, day hospital , gp, psych) but that maybe because I have physical problems relating to mental health problems such as I got a heart block off meds, and I have also caused kidney damage as a result of self poisoning and I have hyperlipidemia which needs managing because of my meds. So everyone tries to keeps up to date with my physical problems.
Take care x

Yes they need access sometimes to determin safe drug treatment.
Where I work (in a hospital) we request all the medical notes for every patient. Even if a patient has come in feeling suicidal we get all their medical notes for the psych team to look over.
However they rarely read them unless they need to know something specifically.
