CBT
So I had my first ever CPN appointment today, I think it went pretty well. I have to start CBT in two weeks. I was just wondering what other peoples experiences with this were. It's just I don't really know much about it. Also my mum asked about it and I dunno how to explain to her exactly what it is.

It's basically a type of therapy that aims (through homework, evidently *grumble*) to make you understand that sometimes your thinking is distorted, how it is distorted, and helps you try to fix that...
It's proven helpful for SI.

Someday, somewhere, somehow, someone will notice I wasn't ok, but;
Someday, somewhere, somehow, I will be...
I'll hold onto that hope desperately.

Ive done abit of it (though trying to get out of it at the moment). It basically looks at your thoughts and feelings and how they are linked to the way you behave and vice versa. I think it can take quite awhile to work and you have to be prepared to put the effort in as you have to do things for each appointment like fill out mood and activity diaries and stuff. It sure it can be beneficial.
On the other hand, if you're looking for personal experiences then i dont find it very useful and i dont like my CPN. But if you get on with yours and you're willing to give it a go then im sure it'll help. Take care :)

There is some decent information about it there. Maybe show your mum that or similar to help her understand? But yep, it's about how your thoughts, feelings and behaviours are linked and it helps you work on faulty thought patterns and change behaviours which in turn is meant to make you feel better (although that is over-simplified!).
I found it really really helpful with anxiety, especially social anxiety, and with regaining control over my self-harm and negative behaviours. I didn't find it made a great deal of difference to how I actually felt but it is really helpful for a lot of people with depression etc. I found it a really positive experience overall though.

"I know you're sad, so I won't tell you to have a good day. Instead, I advise you to simply have a day.
Stay alive, feed yourself well, wear comfortable clothes, and don't give up on yourself just yet.
It'll get better. Until then, have a day."

The information above is really good
I had CBT about 3 years ago now, and it really really helped. It can make things worse in the short-term as it can be difficult talking through your problems, but in the long-term it's helped me immensely.
Good luck, I hope it goes well!

There are, it has been said, two types of people in the world. There are those who, when presented with a glass that is exactly half full, say: 'This glass is half full'. And then there are those who say: 'This glass is half empty'.
The world belongs, however, to those who can look at the glass and say: 'What's up with this glass? Excuse me? Excuse me? This is my glass? I don't think so. My glass was full! And it was a bigger glass!
