what is the bleeding like? is it like your normal period, lighter, heaveier etc etc?
when on the implant you may not have any bleeding at all but when you do it can last any amount of time.
if it is starting to effect you i would head to your doctors and have tests done as your iron may be low.

The implant can cause prolonged bleeding in some people. Your doctor should have informed you about this when you got it fitted! Go back and talk to him as their is medication they can try to solve the problem, or if that doesn't work it can be removed. Through I'd be tempted to go see another doctor as it seems highly unprofessional to leave you unaware of possible side effects and what to do about them if they do occur.

I had about 3 weeks of very light bleeding when I first got the implant, my periods then got back into a more regular rythm and are a lot lighter and less painful than before. However the implant doesn't suit everyone.

Well ive had the implant for about a year now, and it is only the last three weeks that its ever happened, my period isnt really heavey but its not light either, its just constant and i hate period pain! But i think thats normal! :/

i dont really want the implant to be taken out as it helps to control my hormonal side of things, but i did get it done at a sexual health clinic and they just fitted me in with little to no explanation of what it does ( apart from the obvious).

thanks for the reply's and i hope to go to the docs in the morning as i have a UTI and also wondered whether this could cause anything?

Yeah i would advise speaking to your gp, they can arrange some bood tests to ensure that you are not anemic as well as avising you if there is a better form of contraception.

A UTI wouldn't cause a period no or a change in the hormones which lead to that, no, if that's what you mean by the last bit; neither would the implant itself though if you are sexually active things like not going to the toilet for a wee after sex can, as can wiping from bak to front rather than from front to back like you should do when you go to the toilet.

Ok thanks for all replies, i went to the docs yesturday and he gave me cerazette to hopefully stop the bleeding as it contains alot of a certain hormone that helps to stop it?

Im also on antibiotics for a UTI, as there is too much protien or something? i dont really understand why its bad to have too much protien in your wee???

I am more aneamic aswell so am on iron tablets, and omeprozole for my stomach ulcer whci is also bleeding.

i dont really understand half of whats going on with my body?

an im on tramadol for the pain!

Protein shouldn't really be in your wee. It's not big enough and is the wrong electrical charge to be filtered out into your wee by your kidney and therefore protein in your urine is abnormal and is often one of the major signs of infection which can come from lower down the urinary tract such as your bladder so I'm not saying it is your kidneys but that's why protein shouldn't be there; damage to the lining of the bladder seen with inflammation concurrent with infection is the main reason for the protein in MOST cases with a UTI.

Only take the Tramadol as and when you need it when the pain is bad and if you feel dizzy/ out of it/ drowsy after taking it then don't drive (if you do usually drive of course!)

Progesterone is the hormone which reduces the chance of you having a period and a synthetic version of this that has the same action is what is in Cerazette and that's why you'll have been prescribed that. If you feel the implant is not helping then you could always discuss with your doctor whether or not it would be worth having it removed (though if you're using it for birth control now would be a bad time as antibiotics reduce the action of 'the pill' and so if you had it removed now you wouldn't be covered for pregnancy on the Cerazette the whole time you are on the Anti-B's and for 7 days after that.

Oh my goodness, thank you so much that has really helped me a huge deal! And things are starting to feel a little more understandable! thanks!!!

basically o a whole i think the implant is good as before i had it i used to get terrible period pain along with a very heavy flow, and really bad PMT. As for the Tramadol, i think i am probably taking it too much as I sometimes do not take it for the pain, but actually take it to settle my stomach and act as a binder for me (if you get what i mean). I also took it yesturday and the day before with alcohol, and wondered whether this is a really bad thing to do, or is just not recommended?

thanks so much for you answers everyone, they mean alot! xxx

I wouldn't take Tramadol with alcohol, no as they both suppress your brain activity and it can be quite dangerous.

And really Tramadol, though it may be tempting to use it at other times, should only be used as and when you need it for pain otherwise you can start to develop a 'dependency' for it; less likely than with the use of many other prescription painkillers but it is possible and as well as that the more you use it the less it will help with the pain so it's best leaving it (even just from a pain-killing point of view) to when you actually need it.

Ok, thanks, i guess its just difficult sometimes, when it is something thats there and that i know makes me feel a little more at ease if I am going out, as I know that i should be alright with the pain and everything else when i take it, if that makes sence, sorry im not very clear!

Is there anything else that i could take apart from tramadol, paracetamol and ibuprofen?

thanks for all your help! x

I'm on many different sorts of meds for pain and what I do is if I've not taken one of them then I carry it around with me and then if the pain gets bad or if some of my symptoms develop which I know will mean my problem becomes very painful I will then take them so this may be worth doing rather than taking them anyway in case it does become painful. Though if this will make it more tempting for you to take them when you're out even when you're not in pain then perhaps that will be no better.

Really, given that you have a stomach ulcer I wouldn't take anything more than Paracetamol and Tramadol (if you need it) because Ibuprofen and stomach ulcers don't mix and can make them a lot worse (it's one of the main causes of stomach ulcers) which is probably why your doctor has put you on Tramadol rather than a stronger med in the same group as Ibuprofen. But no, other than that there is nothing else you can take. If you're still struggling with the pain then you need to discuss this with your doctor.

Thank you animad.. I do tend to carry the tramadol in my bag with me all the time anyway, i think its just like a safety blanket for me, and i know that when I dont take tramadol especially if i'm going out i get really panicky... i dont know why.
