Mirtizipine?

Has anybody else had any experiences with Mirtizipine?

I've tried to look it up on the internet but there's not much out there on it.

I've suffered from depression and anxiety for years but have only quite recently, within the last two years or so, gone down the anti depressants route.

I've been on venlafaxine for the last 14 weeks, and i started having really bad nightmares on it. I would wake up sweating and shouting. Not to mention countless headaches and an inflamed anxiety. Don't get me wrong at about week 7 it started working, i slept right through the night and felt quite good. Then it's like it just wore off.

So i went back to the doctors and they have tried me on this Mirtazipine while im being wheened off the venlafaxine.

I feel like an absoloute Zombie. For the first two days i was on this drug i slept for 26 hours. I feel like i can't wake up, i'm totally surreal, and almost got hit by a car because i wasnt aware of anything that was going on around me when i tried to go for a walk to get some air.

Has anybody else had similar side effects? Will this drowsiness and such eventually wear off?

Mirtazapine can make you very drowsy but the affects do calm down, most likely within the first two weeks of taking it. It could also be because you are coming off the venlafaxine as well.
Mirtazapine has a lot of good reviews and I hope it works for you It did work quite well for me. Are you taking it at night?

I have been on mirtazapine for about 6 months now. I started on 15mg and it made me very drowsy, id be asleep after half an hour of taking it so I took it before i went to bed every night. I was then moved up to 30mg and am now on 45mg. The drowsyness wears off after several weeks of being on it so you just have to bear with it for a while. In terms of mood somedays i think it helps but somedays it doesnt so i dont really know if it helps or not to be honest. The worst thing for me is the amount of weight I have gained whilst being on mirtazapine. Since i started taking it ive put on 2 1/2 stone and i'm not happy about it at all. If it makes you as hungry as it makes me then make sure you regulate your food intake. Other than that I hope you get good results from it!

Like the other said the drowsiness does wear off . I think i felt like a zombie for about the first 5 days i think .

I was on venlafaxine and then moved onto Mirtazapine because the Venlafaxine was causing insomnia and I also was having freaky dreams when I did sleep

The first two weeks on Mirtazapine (in my experience) I was very sleepy and hungry, I basically slept away the first week on this drug (which was very nice since I didn't get a good sleep on the Venlafaxine)
My advice would be to give the Mirtazapine a bit more time to enter you system and maybe just take advantage of the good sleep you can get
The sedation should wear off after a couple of weeks

I've found the Mirtazpine to be really helpful (I started on 15mg now I'm on 30mg) and It's the only anti-depressant that I've tried thats actually improved my depression a bit (although obv it isn't a wonder cure-all drug)
but do be careful of what your eating on this drug
It's really tempting to eat all the foods you might crave on this drug (sugar, sugar, sugar) but I put on two stone in two months on this drug so be careful with what you eat, good luck!

Thanks, thats really helpfull. You have just basically described everything thats been happening with my experiences on the two drugs. I am going to give mirtazipine a good go. I'm hoping that this drowsiness does wear off soon though, im starting to feel like a bit of a zombified muppet freak.

I was on it for about a week but stopped taking it because most of the time I literally felt like I could not even move and yeah zombified is a good way to describe the feeling XD. I just lay about feeling horrible all the time.
Sorry I guess that is not very helpful because as I stopped taking it I cannot tell you whether the side effects start to wear off after a while. I hope you have better luck with it :)

I was on that for a while, it made me knocked out for 12 hours a day and drowsy for the other 12 and have a stinking headache, so after 4 weeks without side effects going away they took me off it and put me on venlafaxine. Sorry that's not much help

I found that the drowsiness persisted but if you take it a couple of hours before you plan on sleeping then it shouldn't affect your daily life too much.

I put it down on paper and then the ghost does not ache so much.

I'm on Mirtazapine. I was started on it when I was on an acute ward. Literally ten minutes after taking it the drowsiness would hit me like a brick wall. I slept almost constantly for the few few days I was on it, but that went quickly. But the one thing that is really good with it is that you get a brilliant nights sleep every night! I take mine just before I go to bed.

Yeh I had very similar side affects but most were gone within a few weeks. I still find now with the slightly increased dose that I know an hour or some after I have taken it that I feel slightly sleepy but it does wear off. Duno about anyone else, but I don't think it is helping that much, but that's just me.

Mirtazapine was one of the best anti-depressants I was ever on. I definitely think you should wait till the side effects wear off and see what you think then.
Good luck to you.

Hi. When I first started taking 15mg of mirtazapine I felt like a zombie too, like really unreal. But that wore off after a couple of days.
I'm now on 30mg and it helps me sleep but doesn't make me drowsy during the day anymore. The higher the dose, the less drowsy you feel.
Hope that helps. x

I was on this a couple of different times. Never stayed on it for very long though. When I was really depressed, I had a LOT of trouble sleeping, and it was GREAT for getting me to sleep. Unfortunately, no one told me that one of the possible side effects was weight gain, and I was still competing in gymnastics at the time. I switched to a different antidepressant after finding out the likely side effects, because gaining weight was simply NOT acceptable for me at the time. The second time I was on it, my doctor told me to basically take it instead of sleeping pills (which I'd been getting truly weird side effects from). Once again, it was GREAT for getting me to sleep.
