A mate of mine did a halloween party at his house and ended up having the police round for no important reason because some silly old hag said it was upseting her kids
(more like she didnt like it and used her kids as an excuse) and actually phoned the police?!? wtf is wrong with people.
I can understand why it could be upsetting for small children. But the police were hardly necessary!
Like it says in the article, if she had come over and asked him, they could have come to a compromise!
*Unrelated*
As for the waste of police time, it's not like Herts police really have much to do anyway
I'm fine! Totally fine. I don't know why it's coming out all loud and squeaky, 'cause really, I'm fine!
I cant believe she called the police!Well I can but seriously!
There are times to stay put, and what you want will come to you.
But there are times to go out into the world and find such a thing for yourself.
I aint no abacus but you can count on me.
The display was potentially upsetting, and inappropriate for children. Gore on television/movies/magazines/art galleries etc comes with a warning, and is often subject to age restrictions.
Yeah, but the police?
It really could have been sorted out face to face!
I'm fine! Totally fine. I don't know why it's coming out all loud and squeaky, 'cause really, I'm fine!
Am inclined to be confident in those situations, but many people are not, or fear that things could go very sour. If I were advising someone in that situation, I'd tell them to call the council, and failing that, the police.
This.
Not everyone would feel confident to approach such a situation. Hallowe'en is one night of the year (not a month), and the 'point' of it isn't really to scare children witless.
I suppose it depends how well the neighbors know each other. If he does it every year for a good cause then I would have thought he was fairly well known in the community.
Then again, it's Stevenage
I'm fine! Totally fine. I don't know why it's coming out all loud and squeaky, 'cause really, I'm fine!
I have to say after looking at the article I know without a doubt that would scare my kid s***less! and he would take it literally and believe it to be real despite explanation from me.
We go out for halloween but have never encountered something along such graphic lines but if I were the person who lived in the street theirs no way I would call the police-thats just excessively stupid,I would avoid the house if I could and as a last resort speak with the guy.
I understand its for a good cause but yeah don't think it needs to be quite as dramatic really thats all.
"And it's hard to dance with a devil on your back so shake him off."
I do not feel comfortable confronting my neighbors over things and it's been quite dangerous to do so in the past. So now that I live in a safer neighborhood, it's still my first instinct to call the police and have them deal with it.
Plus that way, if you do confront the neighbor and it turns into a bucket of crazy, they can't come after you saying that you're harassing them or whatever.
I don't think you need to be quite so rude about her. His stuff is gory, personally I would ignore it because I don't like to cause trouble but I can understand why she raised an objection. You may not agree but you don't need to swear about her and her opinion.
Even as the stone of the fruit must break
that its heart may stand in the sun,
so must you know pain.
There are only two ways in which one can live their life. One is as though nothing is a miracle, the other is as though everything is.
You can make far epic-er Hallowe'en displays without the gore. Not necessarily that they're more children-friendly though. I remember once turning my friend's front garden into a graveyard. We cut out full-sized graves from polystyrene, spray painted them grey, carved funny quotes into them and stuck them into the ground at jaunty angles with barbecue skewers. We also did one of those crime scene things where I was drawn around in chalk on the drive and police tape made. One dad had to bring his little girl back the next day to show her it wasn't real :S we didn't think of that.
Must admit the display is a bit too gory for me, and I'm certainly not a child.
Don't know if I'd have called the police over it, but then again my neighbours are certainly not the friendliest to me so I probably wouldn't go over either.
Do not be dismayed by the brokenness of the world. All things can be mended. Not with time, as they say, but with intention. So go. Love intentionally, extravagantly, unconditionally. The broken world awaits in darkness for the light that is you.
I would find that upsetting if it was next to me. I think Halloween should be fun, not gory and bloody e.g. the skelton itself is O.K. Looks like he's smiling but the gore beside him is not IMO
