I am currently:
PICU and specialist IP unit (The Dene)

Hi, I don't know the purpose of this thread, I guess a little support and reassurance would be good.

I'm currently IP in my local psych. ward. My consultant wanted me to go to The Cassel. Funding has been approved they just have to come and assess me. However, because of my level of SH recently (4 trips to A&E last week)the Doctor is saying that the chance of The Cassel accepting me is very bleak. Her suggesting is to send me to a PICU and then back to The Dene (I was there 11 months, discharged Feb. 2012). I'm so sad about this I don't want to go to a PICU and then back to The Dene again, it did nothing for me when I was there last time. Staff seem to think you can just stop self-harming just like that. If only it were that easy. They want me to talk to staff rather than SH but I find it difficult opening up to staff and to be honest I don't see how talking it over and over is going to help. To put it bluntly my Nan's dead (cancer) and so is my friend (suicide) and I blame myself for their deaths. I have problems at home, I feel like I don't fit into society. I've no friends. There is just so much and it can't be magically fixed by talking like they want me to.

Anyway, sorry to go on I just felt like I needed to get it out of my head.

Hey lovely,

I was in a similar situation to you in respect to The Cassel at least. Due to the severity of my self harm they wouldn't take me on as a patient - sorry, I know that's probably not what you want to hear but they do it to for the right reasons.

Would the idea be to stabilise you in PICU then transfer you back to The Dene to be re-assessed for The Cassel?

The Cassel did make it clear to me that they weren't say no forever, just whilst the harming was so severe.

Hi Tig, they are saying that they can't deal with my level of risk in an open ward and that's why they want to send me to a PICU. I think the idea is that basically I'm not currently ready to go to The Cassel so they are left with little option other than to send me back to The Dene.

That does make sense unfortunately.

Hopefully though in the long term it will be better for you to go The Cassel when you are in a better place rather than going now when you are likely to end up harming yourself significantly and not being able to participate in the programme.

The only thing that might be worth suggesting is a specialist unit rather than a therapeutic community? I guess it will come down to funding and whether a specialist unit is right for you but it may be worth asking.

Thanks for the advice hun I suppose it does make sense. The Cassell is obviousluy not the right place for me now. I'd be happy to look at other specialist IP units just not The Dene.

Ah sorry, I didn't realise The Dene was a specialist unit - doh!!

I hope you can bring that up with them and hopefully your consultant will take on board your request and at least consider it.

Hi have you heard of huntercombe? They have a specialist unit in roehampton london that specialises in BPD. The womens ward is low secure so u have to go in under section but they are very good in treatment. I have a friend who is currently a patient there. It might be a different option for you.

Hope that helps
