Overdose/ Self-Poisoning Question - It's probably nothing but yeah - Not Urgent

It's probably nothing, I'm just kind of curious

I was in hospital for an OD almost two weeks ago. It wasn't life threatening or a suicide attempt, i kept passing out and don't remember much of it.

Anyway, I know that they took my blood and left the needle thing in to put me on a drip, I don't remember if I actually did get put on a drip, and have no idea how long I was in emergency before going to Psych Emergency (infact come to think of it I don't even remember going to Psych Emergency... I was just there lol). But now, 2 weeks later the inside of my elbow, where the needle/drip was is really sore to touch and I think it might be kind of swollen.

I would understand if it happened closer to the incident, but 2 weeks later... WTF? So I was wondering if anyone has any idea why it would be hurting??

Its possible where the needle was it has caused some sort of infection.
Might be a good idea to get this checked out.

Hmm what are the signs of infection when it's not an external cut? I mean it's not going to pus or smell or anything. I'm seeing my Psychiatrist on Friday, if it's still sore I might ask her...

Pain and redness would be the main indicators. Espcially if a red line appears traceling from the area towards your heart.

Hmm no line or redness. It's looks bruised now. Yellow-ish. I thought yellow was old bruises, but I've been looking for the last few days and haven't noticed a bruise until now. Plus bruising should have happened a lot closer to the time the drip was actually in right? *confused*

That's pretty normal. I've been on many many drips and sometimes it is sore after for a while. Since the bruising showed up so late you might want to get it checked out. It's probably fine, but just be safe.

Does the vein feel hard at all? Sometimes after an IV the vein gets hard and sore, and I was told it's not a problem.

It doesn't feel hard no. A hard vein... creepy.

Thanks, I'll keep an eye on it, see how it goes and stuff :)
