i met my social worker today and by total fluke i spotted something on one of her sheets and said my diagnosis was schizophrenia .
i completely lost it ,three years ago i had a psychothic episode and been on meds since ,nobody has ever told me i was schizophrenic ever ,i have nothing against this illness obviously ,but imagine all this time thinking i was fine and then to be writing this about me behing my back ..i am so upset i dont know what to do
i tried ringing the doctors place but couldnt get through ,the social worker was like sure your on meds arent u ,isnt it all the same ,
NO it isnt all the same
i was in court b4 and down on my medical report was that i was bipolar and i had to stand up and say that i wasnt bi polar and they told me it didnt matter but how can they get away with writing random things down about a patient ,i mean these diagnosis sum up a persons whole life like ,dont they understand
i am so angry ,if i am schizophrenic i will handle it but please have the decency to tell me to my face like ,not go writing about it on my files without telling me and the same saying im bi polar on my court papers ,putting me in awkward positions
i am furious right now really furious

I know you are angry now but are sure it was an offical diagnosis? They often write on your notes what they think may passibly be wrong and even if it is they didn't tell you for reason, not to go behind your back or anything it is usally just because they think it might be distressing to be be diagnosed with somethings. Schizophrenia is one og those things they don't like to diagnose people with, without being 100% because there is such a stigma attached to it.
I am sure when you speak to them they will explain why they didn't tell you but try to calm yourself down. Getting angry won't change anything.
Take care of yourself

Thanks but this is the second time they have done this with two different diagnosis ,and they have had three years to see me and work me out plus I was in hospital for four months and had the scan and they told me I wasnt schizophrenic at the time .I mean I would like to know if I was cos I would be on meds for the rest of my life not just for a while .

Gah thats frustrating, well I guess all you can do is ask and hope they give you a straight answer but I do get how frustrating it is when they keep getting your diagnosis wrong because it affects how you are treated so much!
Hope you can get it sorted

you should just ask straight out, there shouldnt be any reason why they wouldnt tell you. whats the worst that could happen.

I'm fine! Totally fine. I don't know why it's coming out all loud and squeaky, 'cause really, I'm fine!

Who else is fine?!?!?

Can you plan what you are going to say before you leave a message?

I had a suspected diagnosis of BPD a year before I was officially told. So it might be the same, a suspected diagnosis but nothing official.

Isn’t it funny how day by day nothing changes but when you look back, everything is different…

Hey, I was told I had schizophrenia recently, but its taken them bloody years to tell me. Every time I asked about it before they just said they didnt want to tell me my diagnosis because it might upset me. They might have thought the same about you, so they might have just been trying to protect you by being secretive about it. I was a bit annoyed about it as well, but at the end of the day its only a name and you shouldnt let it upset you. MH professionals can be a bit odd sometimes :)

I rang the doc today and she rang me back and she said that she had deffo mentioned it that I was schizophrenic in some of our sessions and I was like no way ,I mean how could someone forget that .
Anyway she said that three years ago when I was in hospital I was showing signs of schizophrenia as in with the psychosis but that I have been fine for quite a while now and its not a life long diagnosis but she wants to chat to me further about it .
So what I think is they are waiting to see if I crack again or get psychotic or maybe Bear you are right they just dont want to come right out and say it .All in all she said she understood why I would be so upset but she never said whether I was schizophrenic or not ,she thinks I will be on meds for a nother year or two if I continue to be ok .Who knows what could happen to me ,hopefully I will be alright .

Its normal for them to keep you on meds for a long time after your stable so don't worry about that part =)
