Haloperidol doses
I'm impatient and my dr has just prescribed me Haloperidol 5mg TWICE daily (so 10mg total). Is that a low, medium or high dose? What dose do you take if you do take Haloperidol?
|
You should really ask your doctor or the nurses in hospital, they'll know if its high or low.
|
Thanks. I'll ask a nurse. I'm getting muscular stiffness, lethargy, tiredness and spasms in my legs if I sit down for more than a short while. But hey the Voices have calmed down and I went on the Underground without freaking out.

maybes procyclidine would help? x
|
Sorry i cant remember what i was on but ive just googled it and it says its usaually between 0.5 - 5mg so that means your ona high dose, i think.
|
Def ask the nurses
I have been on this in past in hospital 10mg morning, 10mg midday and 10mg eve, I think thats max dose tho xxx |
Hey, thats about what I was taking, but that was with 20mg of olanzapine as well so I think its about medium. But if you get the information leaflet which comes with the meds it should tell you what the average and maximum dose is. They're meant to give you that if you ask for it. :)
|
Information leaflet can tell you.
It is also worth bearing in mind that what is considered a 'safe' dose as inpatient can often be different to if you are an outpatient. |
Can I ask why you want to know? Medication doses aren't a competition for who is on the highest dose and therefore the worst off. Dose strength depends on a lot more things such as weight, height, diet, other medication, other physical issues such as digestive problems etc.
|
Daffodill, I am not liking your posts.
It is not a competition. I just wanted to know if I have leeway to go up on the dosage because the nurses don't think my meds are doing enough for me. Thanks for the replies. Ranger Fairy, that must have knocked you out stone cold... (FYI I'm quite light) |
Like Daffodill said, It would be better to ask the nurses, as it is different for everyone, and it's usually done at the doctor's descretion. I know people on above the recommended dose for some drugs but the doctor has decided it. It's never a good idea to ask people on the internet really, you'll get better advice from the nurses.

I did have serve sedation, and hardly moved, but I needed it to help me get better and it did work.
Def speak to the nurses but they do know what they're talking about, try to em a chance, I do understand how hard it can tho *hugs* I hope you start to feel soon xxx |
I'm not sure hun, but i agree you should ask the nurses. I can understand why you'd like to know what sort of dosage you are on though. I, for example, like to know that i'm not being put on a higher dose than is necessary, because sometimes you get no more benefit, but a heap more side effects... also it's good to know whether you've got any room for increase should it be necessary. Sorry if that's not how your thinking, just wanted to offer a 'maybe' explanation, after it was suggested it was 'competition'....
take care though hun, jen x |
oh, lol... my heads a bit mashed.. you actually say it's about dosage increase..... ignore me..
