Typical (old) antipsychotics - experiences?
My psych said I may have to try typical antipsychotics. Typical antipsychotics are the older ones like Haloperidol and Chlorpromazine.
Has anyone tried these? Did they help? How bad where the side-effects? Thanks in advance. |
Sorry no help, but I've had the Chlorpromazine suggested as an alternative to Olanzapine which makes me drousy. so I'd be interested in responses
P.S. hows it going Steel?? |
I found chlorpromazine really helpful but it wasn't used for schizophrenia in my case. However, my friend who does suffer with schizophrenia is on chlorpromazine and also finds it really helpful.
The only thing I did find was when I first took it I got really low blood pressure and kept fainting but I guess they keep an eye on this sort of thing. x |
i was on chlopromazine for a long time,it worked great for me,quietened everything down, the only major side effect i had from it was photosensitivity....i couldnt go in the sun practically at all-which is ok in winter, but was hell in the summer.xx

Steel,
We've been on quite a few anti-psychotics. Olanzapine, Chlorpromazine being two older ones. Olanzapine made us drowsy and fat and Chlorprom really helped. Though when we had chlorpromazine with quietiapine our heart almost stopped. So that wasn't so good. lb |
Thanks all.
Tomorrowwillcome, I'm struggling, but I'm still alive, so hey. I have been given Trifluoperazine as an option. I had a blood test today which will decide whether I stay on the Clozapine or if I go onto a new medication. The results will come back on Thursday. Thank you for your help. |
