a "leave of absence"

Hi all,

I just read something in a thread which triggered me. I don't want to go into details but I'm a bit upset by some of the content. It wasn't written with any malice or intent to trigger anyone, and I doubt that it would have been a breach of any rules. It was just some of the stuff involved that was really upsetting to me personally. I just feel really upset and I don't want to think about that post right now.

I also think that I am spending too much time here and it would be best if I had a break for a while. I might come on every so often just to see how everyone's going. I will still be on RYL too just not for hours and hours each day.

I also have some personal problems, in my marriage and now my wife is suffering depression and grieving for a family member who passed away more than 6 years ago. I need to help her out a bit more and see that she gets the counselling she needs. We are also fighting a lot and I want to work things out and it doesn't help if I'm always online. I really want to help people by offering support and understanding when I can but I have found that I need to sort things out myself too.

I just don't want to head any further south. I have a course next year I want to do to make myself more employable and open up new options. My wife and I already have plans in place to turn things around in the coming years and setting ourselves realistic goals. The new year will hopefully be the turning point for us. I really want to change my life and be free of SI. I will always have MI, it's a lifelong issue, it runs in my family and I have accepted that but I'm no longer going to let that hold me back and ruin my life. It's going to be a long slow road to recovery but every journey starts with a few small steps. Right now I want to be making those small steps in the very near future.

Like you guys, and like Jess, I am only human and have my own problems to sort out. When I'm better I would love to come back and offer my support to others who are struggling. And I will still continue to be a proud member of RYL and will let you all know how I'm going on my own journey of recovery.

It sounds like you are very committed to taking care of yourself and your family right now Nathan. *hugs* I think that is a very responsible thing to do.
I am sorry there was something here that upset you so much. I am glad that you are seeing the need to take care of yourself for a bit, to step back.

Please take care

Ally
