Criminal Record? (section 136)
 

I was sectioned by the police on Tuesday on a Section 136 (I think?)

and now I'm wondering if this is going to effect my future life in any way
I mean, do I have a criminal record now or something ?

I've always wanted to become a mental health nurse or a police officer
is that now impossible?

I'm scared that this could ruin my life now :-(

(plus I'm still a little shaken up by the section, I still have the bruises from the hand cuffs and restraints, need a hug , anyone ? :pinch: )

I think it will show up on your CRB for a designated period but just because you have something on your CRB doesnt automatically exclude you from getting the job you want. It will depend on what it is and how many years since you had it. Obviously for either of your chosen career paths, you will need to demostrate a certain level of mental stability any way to pass the occupational health procedure so I would imagine, depending on what happened for you to be 136ed, as long as the occupational health were satisfied, they might be more likely to overlook it.

Try not to worry about this for now, as you've obviously got quite enough of other stuff to deal with right now without worrying about the future. So long as at the time you are thinking of beginning your career training you have demostrated good mental health for an approved amount of time, I dont see it being a barrier to you.

it'll be on records for sure but shouldn't have too much of lasting effect on your future, they might ask you about it ....

i can really relate to being manhandled via section...been there several times and last time was particularly nasty- ended up in a wheelchair for a fortnight!

In answer to your questions
I tried to OD and cut my wrists on tuesday and somebody called the police and they arrived and tried to stop me from doing it
I understand that they were only doing there job and trying to ensure I was safe but they weren't half brutal in the way they restrained me
:-(
They sent me to A+E and I got admitted into a pych ward for a few days, I'm back home now though, hurrah :-)

It sounds like they need to learn safe holding more... probably they felt awkward or frightened. They had no need to hurt you more.

Yeah the police woman called me attention seeking so I told her to go **** herself, so that might of made her a bit pissed off and rougher,
I don't know, I did apoligise for swearing at her afterwards and she was ok with me, but I was very unco-operative so I guess they had to be rough with me, still, wasn't very pleasant experience.....

Please read the below that I got from legal advice, I was sectioned on a 136 and section 2.

A Standard Disclosure gives details of criminal convictions, cautions, reprimands and warnings held on the Police National Computer. An Enhanced Disclosure may also include relevant information held by local police forces. Therefore, if you were taken to a place of safety under section 136 of the Mental Health Act by the police then this may be disclosed on an Enhanced CRB check. The effect of any Disclosure following an Enhanced CRB check would likely depend on any requirements that the college has and whether the information disclosed would mean that you would be unsuitable to enrol of the course. You should clarify with the college about whether they require an Enhanced CRB check. If an Enhanced CRB check is required and the college does refuse you admission onto the course because of the information that is disclosed you should ask for their reasons to justify doing this.

It was wrong of her to stigmatise you/belittle you like that - even if it was out of a deep need for attention her response was inappropriate.
There is a difference between gently firm and containing with someone, and being rough - look how disruptive children respond to roughness, just by being more out of control, often.
They were clearly not responsive to your vulnerability and fear beneath.

*hugs* i've been under one too.. with the handcuffs and cells etc. I was then put under a 2 and have previously been on a 3.. so guess i never thought much about the 136.. came close though the other night again.. tried to run away to spain, stopped by police.. long story) If you find out what implications it has can you let me know?
