*embarrasing* female question

Ermm yeah
thers no polite or subtle way of putting htis
so im having a giggly moment writing this

but i noticed this mornings, that my left breast reigon was kinda painful,

so when i finally got round to haveing a shower i had a look, and its like a lump, just underneath my left nipple, about the size of a two pence piece

Do i need to rush of to the GPs or can i leave it a bit
cause id really rather not have to go

thanksss

Strawberry.Bananas 20-05-2008 08:28 PM

With any lumps on the breast I think it's probably best to get it checked out as soon as possible. I know it's an embarrassing and unpleasant thing to have to go about but better than than end up with a bad diagnosis later on?

:)

howlie, 20-05-2008 08:29 PM

I guess so, but it appeared all of a sudden, and im only 16, so its not likely to be toooo bad right?
i really dont want to go thats all

xoxlet_me_flyxox 20-05-2008 08:30 PM

get checked out

your probably should get it checked out
incase its breast cancer
its better to catch it l8r rather than sooner
it maybe embarassing btu better safe than sorry:exclamationmark:

Stellata 20-05-2008 08:31 PM

I had one similar when I was 24. I did get it checked out, and it was fine, and it did go once my period came, a couple of weeks later. Breasts can go all lumpy and such when you're pre-menstrual.

xoxlet_me_flyxox 20-05-2008 08:31 PM

and you ccan get breast cancer at any age
do u excersize often?
that can reduce the risk

howlie, 20-05-2008 08:36 PM

Errr ish
i walk from the bus to school daily nad ride every other week

and i suppose i ought to go, tho i had a look on the internet, and it might jsut be an abcesss, so it might go away?

i dont think its period related cause im on now

Strawberry.Bananas 20-05-2008 08:50 PM

At the end of the day it's better to be safe than sorry. It's better to get reassurance. Lumps can be caused by stress and all sorts so it's likely to be nothing but I wouldn't risk it.
If you feel uncomfortable going is there no one that could come with you?

howlie, 20-05-2008 08:53 PM

Theres plenty of people, but yeah
im not entrely keen on the idea of getting my top off for a doctor lol

Stellata 20-05-2008 08:55 PM

You can just pull it up. That's what I did. And you can ask to see a woman dr.

howlie, 20-05-2008 08:59 PM

i thought about htat
stilldont wanna go tho... hehe
ill see what its like tomorrow?

over and out 20-05-2008 09:13 PM

tbh when i read this and found you age i wudda thought it was to do with your hormones and the fact that your still developing ive had many lumps exactly where you said due to growth of the breast and they went within the week but i would get it checked out if your worried about it

Strawberry.Bananas 20-05-2008 09:16 PM

Yeah; see what it's like tomorrow, if it's changed, grown or done nothing at all I'd go get it checked. If it is just to do with your hormones at least you know and dont worry!

howlie, 20-05-2008 09:29 PM

(Y)
thanks guys
i might have to wear a tight under top in opposition to a bra tomorrow for comfort

Just letting you know that I had a very painful breast once, and it turned out to be an infection in a milk gland. I was about 16 at the time as well! It was from cutting - the infection in my blood had spread and settled in that place. I was getting blood poisoning from it, so needed immediate help.

Lumps and bumps in breasts can be all sorts of things, so yeh - as others have said, fight the embaressment and get a check up :)

Detour. Derail 21-05-2008 12:35 AM

Dunno if this has been advised earlier in the thread...eyes are too tired to read :pinch:
But doctors advise that if you are on your period...you wait until you come off (as the lump may be purely hormonal and may disappear when you finish you TOTM)
But if the lump is solid and you are unable to move it with your fingers, then go to get it checked out ASAP
Either way...if you are worried I would go get it checked out...just to put your mind at ease.
Hope you're ok

Ill go and make an appointment soon i guess

i need to sort it out butyeh
how the hell am i gonna explaing to dad why i need to go to the doctors?

soooted 22-05-2008 02:55 AM

You don't. at 16 you have (I believe) total control over your health; you can make appointments and the reason for them are entirely confidential- even you're parents are not entitled to breach the patient-doctor trust. Even if you take time off school, you don't need to give them the details- just that you're going t' docs.

jessye 22-05-2008 03:12 AM

I get lumps in my left breast from time to time. They're related to my hormones according to the doctor. So when I get them I know I'm gonna have a period in the next fortnight or so. (I'm super irregular)

But yer. Its best to get checked to put your mind at ease. Especially if its painful

Potatos 22-05-2008 06:34 AM

yeah as the others have said i'd get it checked, it could be period related, as i seem to get that too just before my cycle, and i wouldn't be embarased about going to the doctors about it, ask for a female doctor and remember, they've seen everything before so you won't be judged or made to feel uncomfortable, all the best!
