MH issues possibly a sign of a birth of a healer?

http://thespiritscience.net/2014/06/...ntal-hospital/

I just read this piece and found it interesting. Especially since I have recently decided to learn reiki (a hands on or off holistic healing practice) and so found it fitting to read this now and that they called mental illness the "birth of a healer"

It also made some good points regarding how people with MH issues are treated in the West compared to other parts of the world. Here we are a burden to most, too hard to deal with, over sensitive. Maybe if we all lived in places like India we would see our mental unwellness differently?

Has anyone on here suffering from the likes of schizophrenia ever tried a shamanic practice? Ive read about people overcoming addictions by taking part in one of these events! Now I'm just blown away thinking maybe we are looking in the wrong places for help....

I go back and fourth with spirituality a lot...mainly because the whole idea of universal consciousness is hard to wrap my brain around completely :D
Im not sure anyone on here will even be interested but I felt it was worth sharing. Imagine going to one of these events and leaving feeling completely free from our illnesses and maybe even enlightened..or worst case scenario you leave feeling the same as you did we you arrived there? Which would mean we really have nothing to lose by trying it out but everything to gain if they are correct!

Thats a nice thought to drift off to for a change :)

haven't even read the article because of school being bogging atm but I've dabbled specifically with my ability to pick up on emotion and learning more about people and their emotional state by what I feel. Been told a few times to look into 'empath' and thought I'd pass that along.

Thanks Lord! Yes I have a friend who believes he is an empath and proved it to me on a few occasions (he is many many thousands of miles away yet still knows how my day is ..everyday :D ) Ive read that empaths are meant to be rare but I seem to be meeting quite a few of them Any interesting stories about your experience with it?

I've got a friend who is really into this sort of thing!

Eh, I don't believe in any of that.

If it helps you and doesn't hinder your ability to recover etc then go for it.

I can relate. I am an Empath and most days, it sucks. It takes so much energy not to let others' emotions affect me.

OverEmotional 08-08-2015 05:21 PM

yayyy so we have at least 3 empaths on here :D It seems surreal to even believe in the stuff but there is just no other explanation. Like knowing someone is depressed even though they are doing a really good job to hiding it etc
Or being around someone who is really depressed & you can feel it zapping the energy from you.
I can only imagine saying it to a MH professional, they'd have us marked as lunnies for def!!:D

I'm too tired to read but I'm very spiritual. I am also an empath and feel others pain very strongly, it's very hard to bear. I don't care what people think of my beliefs but that is how I live and I can't be anything other than what I am. More power to you.

How could I know if I'm empath and having intuition or it's just my schizophrenia diagnosis making me believe things? Or just me being stupid? I always think I "know" things, but what if they are just delusions and I don't know.

Also, what if I have most or all traits of being an empath but also most or all traits of being narcissistic? Cos what I found through that article was that they are opposites? But both sounded just like me. Though I always think I have everything I read about. And I've always been alone mostly, not in terms of being single (though that too) just a loner. So I've never really had to consider other people. So I don't know if that could be part of it.

I guess no one here will have the answer for me, but if I don't ask then they defintely won't. It seems like everyday there are new "things" I don't know what to call them, conditions, types of people, labels etc, and I read them and think I have every one of them. I know it comforts some people to have a label and something to fit in with, but it's kind of complicated when I'm finding a new one almost every other day. I'm too nosey to just not read them.

Anyway, sorry for long post and many questions.

Though it's a bit strange that the one thing I never believed I had was the thing I was diagnosed with. That was 11 years ago and I'm only starting to believe it now. But denial is a symptom too. Not related to the thread, it's just strange and I wanted to say it so here you go.
