It's my Birthday, Mixed Emotions

It's my birthday, I'm partly excited, but partly anxious/nervous.

It's a Sunday, there are no buses, so not like I can go out anywhere, other than local walking distance, so it's the usual, wanting to be sober for my birthday, and having to avoid people.

And then there's family expectations, they all try to push me to have a birthday drink, but it's never just 1, and feeling vulnerable after cutting really recently, I don't want to slip back into a downward spiral and cut again.

I do have plans to Celebrate, but I was going to celebrate a few days late, on Tuesday, make it a joint Birthday, and St Patricks' Day celebration, I'm picking my Birthday Cake up from a cafe who are making it for me on Tuesday, and am taking a few family and friends with me for a small celebration, where I can be sober and enjoy my birthday, the cafe is the local Drug and Alcohol Agency's social enterprise and is an alcohol free zone, staffed by volunteers.

I'm trying to be positive, but I know my family and friends are expecting me to go out with them tonight for a drink.

I hope everything stays calm and I can have a nice time for my birthday :-)

Happy Birthday!

I know birthdays can be hard when you're not in the best of places mentally. Birthdays and Christmas can feel hard when everyone else thinks it should be celebrated and you're not feeling it.

It sounds like you're in a really good place as far as wanting to keep yourself away from temptations and do what's right for you.

Stay strong with your friends if they're trying to get you to drink and remember you're doing what's healthy for you by saying no.

You can do it!

Happy Birthday - could you not explain? Or if you do go somewhere for a drink maybe you can just have a J2O or something else non alcoholic. Maybe a mocktail or two, so it's like a celebration but alcohol free?

That aside - HAPPY BIRTHDAY: and i hope you manage to enjoy it.

Thanks guys, I'll try and have the best day I can, I drink J2O anyway, so yes that is my plan, but my family will expect me to have at least 1 alcoholic drink, but I do have a plan, when they ask, I'll make it the most expensive so they won't want to buy it, or if they do it will be the only 1 I have, as I'll make sure I only have a limited supply of cash on me :-)
