what's this craze with loom bands?

what exactly are they? seems that everywhere sells them! also what do you do with them? (other than make them into a dress as someone i read did)

marielgata15 10-08-2014 02:57 AM

I don't know friend but it is not only in your country, here where I live there are. Just another dumb trend I guess.

Cacoethes 10-08-2014 03:09 AM

Reminds me of the scoubidou trend when I was about 13!
It will fizzle out.

There was a social worker wearing a few of them yesterday, I was like, you probably have teenage daughters.

I don't know about making them into a dress (?) but here's mine. I also have one my sister in law and nephew made me.

It's not a dumb trend :(

It's like crochet, but with little elastic bands. Most people make bracelets, but I've also made a 3D stuffed owl, a 3D stuffed ladybird, next I'll be making a dragon and a 3D stuffed cupcake.

It's really relaxing and calming :)

I haven't gotten into them but I know a lot of people who have #pointlesspost

nowhereman 10-08-2014 12:08 PM

Personally I think they're pretty awesome. I've never tried making them myself cos I'm just useless at things like that but I think they look cool and they're a good hobby to keep young (and older!) people busy. There is far worse they could be doing with themselves. Plus they're pretty cheap which is a good bonus for parents these days. I approve of the thread! (I meant trend but I approve of the thread too!)

I like making bracelets out of them, it's a good distraction for 20 minutes

not_so_insig 10-08-2014 09:33 PM

Thanks everyone I am much clearer about them now!

Dia 11-08-2014 04:19 AM

they're a really good distraction! they're like little elastic bands you can twist and loop into braclets, charms etc :-)

Animad 11-08-2014 08:10 AM

I saw them the other week, just in a bag that you could buy, and the first thing that went through my mind was that they're exactly like plaiting bands used for horses, just multiple bright colours and with the price inflated hugely. Saying that though, I've not looked into it further than that. My mum wanted me to tell her there and then what they were for knowing that I'd never seen them before either as I'd just told her that.

havealittlefaith 11-08-2014 05:14 PM

Tried these the other day found it boring after a couple of mins did mange to make a braclet through

HopeRises 11-08-2014 05:43 PM

I had some. Got bored quickly. Good distraction to do with your hands though.

I was wondering this too. Being creative I'm obviously curious, but are they actually elastic bands? I CANNOT stand the feeling of elastic bands. Yuck!

nowhereman 12-08-2014 12:50 AM

I think they're more rubber than elastic?

Fabulous Unicorn 12-08-2014 12:59 AM

I've never bought any or made anything with them myself but I like them, I think they're pretty and cute. ^_^ My boyfriend made me a loom band bracelet and I absolutely love it, I wear it every day. :D

xxmoonxraverxx 12-08-2014 01:08 AM

They're like... something to do with your hands. A great distraction from life. Ive made bracelets, bracelets w beads, a bow, and a strawberry.

nowhereman 13-08-2014 03:53 PM

If anyone wants to make me anything at all, I won't mind! (I'm so cheeky lol)

havealittlefaith 13-08-2014 08:56 PM

Brought some rainbow ones today and pastel ones prefer rainbow ones look nice x

FabulousMike 13-08-2014 09:20 PM

My girlfriend loves these things and has made me some pretty epic things, she made me The Hulk and another which I can't recall the other week, it was epic! Also made me a bracelet. She's making me the X-Men team :D It's pretty cool what you can do with them.

I however have very little interest in them.
