My Big Fat Diary

My Big Fat Diary started on E4 tonight... what did you guys think of it? I liked it, though it was a little triggering for me.

Foxtrot Oscar 15-01-2013 01:28 AM

I enjoyed it. It was feel good TV, particularly at the end.

artichokeheart 15-01-2013 01:33 AM

I enjoyed it :)

Based on the real diary of Rae Earl, who used to be a radio presenter on the no-longer airing Leicester Sound, so remember some of this from car rides to school!

I liked it. Was anxious it might trigger me but it didnt at all, will be watching again :)

GambitC13 15-01-2013 04:40 PM

I really enjoyed it, I think it was done quite well.

Leicester Sound is no longer aired? What?! I used to listen to that all the time.

GlitterTrashDoll 15-01-2013 07:37 PM

Can any explain to me what this was/is about? I'm intrigued!

ferretmonster 15-01-2013 07:41 PM

its just about a 16 year old girls expoites after she leave the psych ward. her trying to make friends and be 'normal' and fit in basically

Carla_x 15-01-2013 08:27 PM

Just realised, I believe it's called 'My Mad Fat Diary'.

GlitterTrashDoll 15-01-2013 09:18 PM

Oh, I might give it watch if it's on demand.

They got rid of it and now there's just Capital, which sucks in comparison. Woe! :P

HopeRises 16-01-2013 12:20 AM

I watched it. I thought it was really good and positive. Could relate quiet a bit too.

Foxtrot Oscar 18-01-2013 12:02 AM

I've just watched it again and enjoyed it even more the second time around. I've seen one of the guy actors in something else though. It's bugging me. Think I need to take a trip over to Wikipedia.

Foxtrot Oscar 18-01-2013 12:04 AM

Hollyoaks! That was my guess.

I am disappointed. ): That radio station was my childhood!

I saw it and really enjoyed it, but I thought Rae is way cooler than all the friends she's trying to impress. It made me think back to being 16 and how I would have dealt with the issue of stigma. I loved her accent and thought she was funny (and that her therapist is awesome).

One bug-bear: her friend Tix threw a glass vase of flowers that was in the psych. ward toilet. I know it was a daydream of Rae's, but I think a plastic one might have been more realistic.

ferretmonster 21-01-2013 08:04 PM

Newt from Hollyoaks

HopeRises 22-01-2013 01:09 PM

Still loving this.. Found it slightly triggering last night but on,y I'm a sense of being able to relate to getting the bad feelings out.

I too think Rae seems cooler than her friends and the things she does to fit in. A lot of it is her self belief though isn't it?

Zedebee 22-01-2013 01:11 PM

I haven't watched it yet but wanted to point this out too.
