Olanzapine and periods. *girly stuff*
I've not had a period for five months.
Could olanzapine cause this? I had high prolactin levels when I was on risperidone and it made me lactate, but it didn't stop my periods at all. I don't miss having a period as they're most inconvenient, but it is a bit disconcerting not having one when up until now they've arrived every month for 12 years. I'm loathe to go to the doctors about it. What if it is the olanzapine and he wants me off it? I don't like taking it - it's made me fat and slow - but I've been stable on the current combination of meds for almost a year now. It's the most unmental I've been in a long time and I don't really want to risk messing with anything. |
Someone else in here has a thread about periods restarting after a med change, and that wasn't the reason for the medication change, so I'm sure it wouldn't affect whether your doctor prescribed it, unless there was another good reason.
Are they helping? |

Anyway, the best bet is to seek medical help. Like you I am incredibly stable and have never been so good. Besides I was told (before they knew the test results) that because I was doing so unwell that it was unlikely I was taken off the meds, but there was a possibility that a medication dose change was a possibility to get my periods restarted. So seeking help does not necessary mean that you will be taken off a good medication. Like you I was on risperidone but I had no periods (and like you was lactating), and they didnt take me off that (at least for that reason). My prolactin levels were never checked but they must have been high for me to lactate. I hope that helps. |
