Embarassing bodies tonight.
Hey I've just been looking in the tv guide & Embarassing bodies has a teenager on who self harms tonight. Not sure how interesting it will be, but just thought I'd let you all know.
It's on Channel 4 tonight at 9pm. Katie x |
As long as it's not an old man who gets his penis out, I'm game.
|
It's a teenage special, I think we're safe :P
|
Yeah, it is a teen special. (:
I'll be watching. |
I am so watching this. :]

I've looked at this and will hopefully catch up with it soon, watch it online, see if it's any good.

just walked in as she was showing the scars.
meh |
Just thought I would have a quick look at this show - wish I hadn't.
Didn't quite expect to see a... erm... sack being drained. x |
wasnt to bad- think it was handled a bit simplistic- he asked her why she had been cutting- well if we could all sum it up in a few sentances that would be great..... but they were nice to her and its good its been raised on a high profile show for awearness :) x

As if you could just walk into your gp and ask for scar removal like that. NHS wont do anything.
|
I went to my GP about the Red Cross make up thing and my gp said she cant do anything and that i would have to see them. Though i thought i could be refered
|
Yeah, my GP has repeatedly refused me anything because it's cosmetic and the NHS would say no.
|
I'm pretty sure you can get referred to the red cross quite easily as I know that Cat (Lungs_Locked_Lips_Locked) has and is quite pleased with the result of their camouflage creams.

im in northern ireland and there is only one hospital that does plastic surgery anyway, but i dont no whether or not that should have anything to do with it anyway. but i think that if the scars that you have are having a psycholigical effect on how you are feeling about yourself then it should be allowed on the nhs as its to help you get better. i am fully prepared for them to say to me look you need to be x amount of years or months or whatever free but even if they were to say that to me it would be great as its a goal. anyway back to the show i thought it was great to see it being aired though it didnt really have much relevance to me, as they only looked at removing one scar when i have multiple. the make up i thought was okay though it probably looks less noticable up front in real life anyway |
I've used the red cross make up service before & it was very good. You can refer yourself via telephone or email, you don't have to be referred via GP/somebody similar. I just telephoned them & told them I had scars I wanted to do something about, I didn't mention self harm.
As for the program, I thought it was good that it raised awareness. |

Plus, I wish someone would sort my legs out. Still, good for her for being free. |
I think the "omg thats a huge scar" was his way of trying to be nice.
I think we can be too harsh on doctors etc sometimes. Yes, we need them to be sympathetic. But if they have never self harmed then it must be hard for them to know the "right" or "wrong" things to say. I think he was trying to be helpful and if he said one or two phrases that were kind of awkward then it's only because he doesn't know what to say. Regardless of whether doctors get enough training about self harm I doubt there is a list anywhere of what (not) to say. Like: don't comment on size of scar. Don't ask about tools. etc. |
