xyon 17-06-2007 10:49 AM

I am depressed. And homeless. Again. (Formerly I think I'm depressed again)

It's been, quite honestly, a long time since I last cut. Nearly a year now. Check my status on this new ryl thing and I'm listed as unsafe. I don't FEEL safe anymore. Last few weeks I've been fondling knives/blades etc, but never actually cutting, just feeling the sharpness, so to speak. I'm scaring myself though. My gf's noticed it, I know she has, but I can't really talk about it with her as she's got enough problems with the pregnancy.

I have spoken in brief to her and she tells me she's noticed I've been depressed for over a month now, and I don't know what to do about it. If I go to see anyone, given my past, they'll just label me unsafe to take care of a child and take my son away when he's born. If I don't tell anyone... well... that's why I'm here.

I can't honestly imagine WHY I feel depressed - normal people would be overjoyed at a time like this - baby on the way, wife-to-be who loves me, new house, new job, new pc, everything looking up. So why so down? I can't pinpoint it. Help!

Wabbit 17-06-2007 01:49 PM

Unfortunately depression doesn't discriminate. You can have everything in the world and still get depression. As long as you are not a danger to another person, no one is going to take your baby away from you. It sounds like there have been a lot of changes going on in your life, so maybe its something to do with that. Get the help you need now, before it does become a major problem. Take care.

chocostashchick 17-06-2007 09:25 PM

Depression isn't a logical thing, as wabbit said, and it strikes anybody at any time. You dont deserve to feel that way, though, and your family deserves you to be well. I wouldnt worry about getting help. Being depressed or SIing doesnt make you an unfit parent. Plenty of parents that I knew growing up were in therapy and diagnosed with depression and anxiety and related things. If you arent a danger to others, or a danger to yourself (in suicidal terms), there are no grounds whatsoever to take your child from you. In fact, seeking professional help may make you look more impressive because you are being responsible. But, more importantly, you dont deserve to feel this way and you are entitled to help. I don't know your fiance's details, but if she is reaching out to you and noticing that things are wrong, I wouldnt necessarily shut her out for not wanting to burden her. It may cause her more pain to know that something is wrong but that you wont tell her about it. Give her a chance, maybe, and you both might feel better in the end.
Good luck, and congratulations on the little one. I hope mom and baby are doing really well.

xyon 18-06-2007 12:37 AM

Thank you for speedy replies. I know that she needs to know I'm ok, and you are correct that it'll make it worse if she knows there's something wrong and I don't tell, but I just can't bring myself to do it. I tell her when I'm down but not the full extent of it. I feel like a traitor, which isn't helping, but I think I'd feel worse if I told her.

I'm just very, very scared.

chocostashchick 18-06-2007 03:59 AM

try not to be scared - remember that in the end this is your life and you are the one in control of it
you might not have to tell fiance EVERYTHING, but you can find a way to talk to her and not feel like you are lying or a traitor (because you arent)
just be honest and tell her that things arent great right now and you are feeling depressed but you are still trying to work it all out for yourself and you will tell her more when you are ready
it will get better

~JellyBaby~ 18-06-2007 02:10 PM

Sweetheart, try not to be scared, like the others said, you need to tell your girlfriend, you know it'll worry her more if theres something wrong but she doesn't know what. The time to sort this out is now, so it doesn't develop or get worse, so get what help you can. We're all here for you.
Please take care.

xyon 19-06-2007 07:32 PM

You're all, unfortunately, correct. Which makes my job no easier, I'm sad to say. Thanks for your words of support, they are helpful, and I will commend you all to my gods if I get through this.

I still haven't said anything. Keep approaching the subject and bottling out. I'll keep trying.

~JellyBaby~ 19-06-2007 07:36 PM

good luck honey! stay strong, you can get through this!
remember what i said, you've got everyone behind you, everyone's here for you, anytime you need us.

Thanks. I tried to approach it again last night, but she got upset and I couldn't do it. So we just hugged. :|

chocostashchick 20-06-2007 06:43 PM

hugs are nice
and that is great that you tried
maybe you could write it down instead if that is easier? does she know about RYL? you could always show her this thread, but I totally understand if this is your private thing and you dont want her to see your posts.

good luck hun
i really hope that you two work it out and that you get the help you need.
if details are too much to go into you could always just be general with her and let her know you are having a hard time but you are seeking help and that you just need space or something.

delikatskin 20-06-2007 09:15 PM

You're in a tough situation. She has problems of her own, so you use that as justification not to add yours on top of everything else. You hold it in for one more day. But it won't be long until you've buried so much that you need an outlet. Maybe you'll turn to her then. But what if you don't? It's an awful cycle to get into. I'm there myself. Please, before things get worse for you, talk to her. She should be understanding. If the love is there, she won't turn away. She'll support you like you support her because that's what relationships are all about: leaning on one another.

Find the courage. Talk to her before it's too late.

I intoroduced her to V2 to try to help her with her own SH. She's since managed to stop, well, we both have really. Except now I'm back. Hmm. I've suddenly made myself feel like such a screw-up.

I know. We were in hospital all day yesterday because she had severe abdominal pain. Didn't seem the right time.

chocostashchick 27-06-2007 02:59 AM

you arent a screw up at all - if recovery were really nice and easy and peachy we would all be recovered. you have good days and bad days and that is completely normal and one bad day doesnt take away all the good days and all the work you have accomplished. i hope that things went well at the hospital. you are right that maybe yesterday was crazy and not the time, but as D. said you shouldnt bottle it all up too long and if you cant tell her right now you should find another friend or family member or doctor or something. you shouldnt go through this alone, you dont deserve that, and if you cant tell her yet you should tell somebody. it's hard when things are crazy for both of you, but try not to get in a pattern of making excuses and please find a way to talk to her for both your sakes. since she is familiar with RYL maybe you could show her your posts or something? good luck sweetie - keep us updated, yeah?

Ileana 27-06-2007 06:35 AM

Hope you're feeling better or will be soon, I read but unfortunately I'm not much help at the moment.

xyon 30-06-2007 10:13 AM

OK, apparently posting didn't work last time.

I told her. It hasn't made it any better, or worse. She tries to help, which makes me feel guilty because she's got her own problems, and I'm kinda programmed to look after her. It's not her not helping me, it's me not letting her, I realise that. But I don't know how to change what I am.

At least the baby's ok. We were in hospital all day Monday because they thought she was going into premature labour, which at 29 weeks would be extremely bad.

Turns out she wasn't. Which is good.

Also, we had a 4D scan on Thursday, which was an amazing experience. The pictures are on my website, http://www.xyons-ebooks.tk

xyon 02-07-2007 02:38 AM

Miserable. Always. WHY??????????

xyon 08-07-2007 08:42 PM

Been on holiday this weekend, just got back today. Gods it was good to get away. I really feel a lot better. I've got the doctor on Friday, my GF says she'll come with me and help me tell them I'm depressed.

Scary stuff.

chocostashchick 10-07-2007 02:04 AM

My friend wanted to get one of those ultrasounds last year before she had her baby but she ended up not because of insurance money crap but you are so lucky you could do that! They're amazing arent they??
I'm so glad that you were at least able to be open with your gf and sorta talk about it. I hope you feel like it helped and was a good step?
I have my fingers crossed for you for Friday. I hope that the two of you are able to go and tell the doctor everything so that they are able to better help you. That should be a good thing.

bleedingdragon 10-07-2007 02:41 AM

good luck with drs

Xyon,
Its great youve been on holiday and that it was good to get away,
and that you feel alot better too. Going to the drs on friday sounds a good idea, especially if your gf will come with you, it will help you both to feel closer about the depression your struggling with.

And if you can talk about it, it will be good for both of you. If you struggle write down some of your feelings if you find it hard to explain, and take it with you to drs. The more you can open up about it, i know its hard, but the more you will benefit.

It is scarry stuff mate when depression takes over and holds us back , your doing so well with how you are handling things right now, keep going little steps. And keep posting when you can, we are here for you . remember that.

Dave

Destinationzero 10-07-2007 04:33 AM

You are under a lot of stress. A baby on the way is DEFINATELY a happy time but at the same time it is hard because there is so much to worry about. Getting married...same thing. New job...same thing. So much good happening all at once also creates so much stress. I always noticed that I became depressed when things changed a lot. Everyone needs something to grab onto and have as stability. It doesn't seem that you have a lot of that right now. You seem to be doing well with it all the while. I agree with dave about the little steps. Stay safe and try to remember the good stuff.

xyon 12-07-2007 03:52 AM

All I can say at the moment is thank you. Don't feel like posting at the moment but I want to at the same time.

bleedingdragon 12-07-2007 03:58 AM

its ok please look after yourself

Xyon,
Your welcome , people here, care about you , and will support you,

and please dont worry about not being able to post/and also feeling like you do want to post. I hear what your saying, please post only when you feel comfortable. we are here for you when you can.

please stay safe and look after yourelf

*doesn't*

We went to the doctor's today. I tried, I really did. But it was too hard to actually come out and tell the doctor I'm depressed.

So she did it for me. She was so good, she said everything that needed to be said, and made me more relaxed. I ended up spilling the lot of it, but couldn't say about the self-harm aspects. To be fair, I said no to being suicidal, not thoughts of SH.

I was given a form to fill out to "determine the severity of the depression", and a return appointment on the 23rd of July.

Thank you all so much. Your comments encouraged and supported me when I needed your help, and helped me to open up to my girlfriend. So it's down to you guys she was there to help me, otherwise I'd have bottled and not gone to the appointment.

You all have a place in my heart. May the wisdom of Odin guide you, and the strength of Tyr be yours in times of strife.

*Bows* I am in your debt...

bleedingdragon 13-07-2007 07:31 PM

Hey Xyon,

Glad you went to the drs,

Hey Hugs ,

Its ok mate remember you did your best, its not an easy thing to talk about, that was really good that your gf helped you to open up about how you were feeling. Its good she made you feel more relaxed to. That was a brave thing for you to do spilling the lot well done mate. Hey its ok too about not telling her everything what youve achieved is brilliant. And maybe you can tell her about your Self Harming aspects and suicidal if thats what you were feeling later on.

Its good youve got another appointment on the 23rd of july , Im glad we have helped you Xyon, and youve felt encouraged and supported by us, we care about you and are here for you. Well done to you for achieving what you have, opening up to your gf.

Thats really kind of you to say we have a place in your heart, im greatfull to you for saying it. Im happy i have helped you in some way, as im sure others here will be to.

Thanks for wishing that Odins wisdom guide me, and that the strength of Tyr be there in my times of strife. That means alot to me Xyon thank you.

An old Dragon *Bows* back to you with respect.

There is no debt my friend
i will be here for you when i can in times of need

Dave

As will I you, my friend.

I'll keep updating here as things go. It really helps if I have a crummy day, I like to load this page up and read all the nice things people say to me.

I was reading a few other threads, and most people who've managed to stay SI free for any length of time start to cry instead. I haven't cried, not properly, in two years (possibly more) - is that normal?

bleedingdragon 13-07-2007 08:09 PM

it is normal ,some people dont allways cry

Xyon,
My friend,
Its good that you can post and express yourself, please do keep updating when you can, we will be here for you. I understand what it means to you when you have a crummy day, and can come on here and post, and be comforted by peoples replies.

Well i havent yet achieved the stay self injury free but its my goal and my journey , i keep moving. People cope with there difficulties in many ways, and some will cry more as a release of emotion. I am sensative old Dragon and i can cry .

Hugs you friend, I hear you Xyon about not being able to cry, in the last 2 years, please do not worry, it is normal. You may have dealt with your difficulties by holding in the tears, and getting through stuff without crying.

In time you will be able to cry, given the freedon and space to feel safe to express your tears. It may be that you just dont normally cry. Many guys some on here may still feel its not right to cry or show this. Thats ok. But it is also ok to express emotion if you want to and can.

I was brought up believing men dont cry, And for a long time i didnt cry but somehow held it in. In my 10 year relationship i was in so many difficult situations that at times i couldnt cry, i just had to deal with the crisis, get through. Where as now i have been able to release alot more, and because im really sensative i do, please dont worry about it. People grieve in different ways.
Talk to the dr if you want but its ok.

take care friend
Dave

~JellyBaby~ 13-07-2007 09:34 PM

evening awesome author friend dude thing :)

first off, a huge well done is in order, just going to the doctors was a very brave thing to do, n we are all proud of you. your girlfriend may have spoken when you couldn't but the point is, you went, that took a lot of courage.

glad we could help you reach this point honey, i just know you'll be okay, we're all still here when you need us, always will be. its good that you got a return appointment, be sure to let us know how it goes.

i'm glad that we all have a place in your heart, as you have a place in ours. thanks for Odin's wisdom, and Tyr's strength, they'll help keep me safe i'm sure :)

to repeat what dave said, you owe us nothing, there is no debt, we'll always be here for you. and i have already bowed to you as an author, on the book forums, but on here, i will bow to you as a wonderful friend and a strong and courageous human being.

try not to worry about not being able to cry, i had that problem for a while, one overwhelming situation brought it out of me, and i'm sure it will you as well, in fact, i suspect it maybe the birth of your gorgeous little boy.

hang in there dude, and stay strong, i know you can do this, i believe in you. much love, amy xxxxx

P.s. and cheers not for commenting on the earlier statement :P

xyon 14-07-2007 04:09 AM

Talk to the dr if you want but its ok.

I had that problem. My dad, I remember from when I was younger, and probably obscured by the respect and admiration I had (and still have) for him, was free with his emotions. He cried, he laughed, he screamed, etc., to his heart's content.

Then he left, and my mum got a new boyfriend. Who did none of that stuff. The ex-military type, I guess, he taught me to keep it all in by beating the crap out of me when I expressed emotion.

I left home two years ago, and I cried then. The circumstances surrounding my leaving included him being drunk, and wielding a knife, (or possibly a bat, I just remember it being hard, and painful). The sheer shock, I think, made me cry then, and I don't think I have since.

Crap, sorry about all that. It was more to myself. I'll leave it here, I think. People might be interested.

And talk about not being able to cry, I nearly do every time I read all your wonderful comments. Thank you all. I only hope I can reciprocate in your times of need.

*Bows*

bleedingdragon 14-07-2007 07:08 AM

thank you friend for sharing im honoured

Xyon, my friend,
Hugs you,
What a wonderfull caring dad my friend he being able to
be free with his emotions around you, how privilaged , that he yes cried,
he laughed, and even screamed. Thank you for sharing that .

I m sorry he left you my friend, hugs you, and im sorry your mums new boyfriend was an bad ex military type. And i hear you friend about him teaching you to hold everything inside all your emotion, hurt and anger and pain.

Hugs you mate, cries, as i understand you Xyon, you didnt deserve
to have the crap beaten out of you by him for showing human emotion.
it was very brave of you to face him, and very brave of you to be able to share this painfull memory with us here, and i respect you for that and
you have my support friend. I was in an abusive relationship where my wife used domestic violence against me, so i hear your pain of being on the recieving end of having the crap beaten out of you. And im sory to you had to experience his drunken violence, and with weapons too.
you have been and are very brave friend. My wife was often drunk and violent to herself and me. I hear you mate and i understand you.

This is the reason my friend why youve found it hard to cry its been held inside for fear of being on the recieving end, and one day you will have the space, and acceptance around you to express your emotions. we here at ryl accept you my friend and are here for you remember that.

Hugs you again, i understand yes, you left 2 years ago, and the fact of it being hard and painfull and a shock to you, you need the time my friend
and caring supportive people around you to give you the time and chance
to release your emotions. It will happen friend and you will overcome it in time.

know this friend while i am here at ryl you have my friendship, my support
my respect and my belief in you.

hugs you, youve been very brave, and honest and courageous to be able to talk openly about a very difficult time in your life, i am truly greatfull
you have shared that with me.

Xyon, you never have to appologise ok its alright. people are interested
and people care about you they are greatfull to you for sharing and helping others in trying to understand their own experiences and overcoming their difficulties.

It touches my heart that you say everytime you read our comments that it makes you want to cry, your a wise caring soul and dont worry my friend you wont be alone on your journey let us walk along side you.
you will be able to reciprocate to others in their time of need.

You have already reached out and touched peoples hearts my friend
it is within your heart already and you will reach out to others when needed.

This old Dragon *bows* deeply with honour and respect and friendship to you
he will be by yourside when he can be.

My apologies if I worried you, friend. I haven't had the time to post of late as I'm kinda loaded up with all kinds of work and stuff which isn't exactly helping the situation.

Still, I'm OK. Last weekend I had my first ever birthday party at the tender age of 19 - and my first ever birthday cake as well. A truly excellent weekend, if only the rest of the week hadn't followed it.

Still I refuse to dwell on the past at the moment. I've a bunch of things left to do tonight so I'm going to have to crack on.

See you whenever, guys.

bleedingdragon 18-07-2007 11:54 PM

no appologies needed Xyon do what you need and we are here

Xyon my friend,
Please dont worry no appologies needed, ok,

This old dragon
knew that you would be busy with your day to day stuff, and your gf ,

please dont worry ok. In a way being busy can be helpfull as long as its not to much, which sounds like youve been stretched my friend.

Its good mate your ok, im happy for you, and how wonderfull Xyon
you had your first ever birthday party and at the tender age of 19.

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY" my friend, This old Dragon offers his hand in
congratulations and salutations to you allways, and :

may i wish you much happiness, love, and
success now and in your future, my friend you are a loving, caring young soul, that is wise beyond its years having gained wisdom, strength, honesty on your travels. And it brings joy to this dragons heart to hear you
had a truly excellent weekend.

Yes i hear you mate hm shame the rest of the week was difficult for you,

how reflective and positive of you to concentrate on the present and not the past, wise indeed. right now mate.
good luck with the bunch of things you have left to do tonight, find some time to rest my friend if you can.

and yes Xyon you take your time and come back to us when you are ready, until then we will be here for you.

I understand how hard it is for you, its not your fault in any way. Some one else has made you feel a bad person for reaching out to others when you need help. Youve learnt to hold everything inside.

now slowly youve got to let us in and accept our help my friend.

and listen you only need accept what support or help you feel comfortable with my friend.

but know this mate, the help and support will allways be here for you when your ready to accept it.

I hear you about right now its hard to focus, you say your on antidepressants and your not happy about it. But listen friend they can make a difference to the way your feeling in time. You say youve just recieved them a few days ago. Well they will need time to start working
they can take anything up to 4-6 weeks to start showing an effect.
i hear you at being given the pills and shoved out the door.

Im sorry the dr just gave you anti depressants and shoved you out the door.

you say youve another drs appoint a second oppinion on monday, is this with the same dr or a different dr, cause you iether go back to the original one and tell them where they have failed you or of course friend see a new dr and get the right help.

Its clear my friend that you need more support than just anti depressants, you need to see a counsellor or a psychologist to support you through your difficulties.

your like me friend in that i need a talking therapy ontop of my anti depressants, yours and my past needs someone to help us come to to
terms with it.
Hugs,

what did the dr say to you in your session, they should have told you that it may take 4-6 weeks for your medication to kick in. Can i ask you
Xyon if you discussed your other issues ,other than your depressed, did you tell your dr about the way youve been treated by your mums bad ex army boyfriend. Because often medication alone isnt enough.

your dr may have said come back to let them know how the medication is working , Did they?
If your feeling so bad, you need to tell your dr on monday that you cant wait until the meds kick in.

Im glad from our convo on msn you say your going back to your gp for a
second oppinion, tell the dr how bad you feel, especially how you felt on
msn talking to me about feeling dizzy and everything was blurred.
and how scared you were.
write down as much as you can about your feelings and take them with you your dr . especially about wanting a psychologist or a counsellor for you.

wrire a list for yourself mate:

1) Im on meds if it takes 4-6 weeks before they work
what do i do if i feel worse before they work
2) tell dr how unsafe you feel
3) what after care do i have , will i get, who do i contact
4) youve felt dizzy everything was blurry, also how scared you are, how worried you feel right now

5) can you see a psychologist, or a counsellor you need a talking therapy to help you deal with your past, its clear friend you need to be supported here.

you have to hold on Xyon my friend please stay strong

we all care about you and will be here for you when you are ready to accept our support my friend.

I hear what you said to me on msn about you dont like people fussing over you, i understand youve probably been made to feel bad about having people care about you or helping you. Because you had to hold everything inside,
you help so many people me included, let us help you back friend

The current situation;

Well, the baby's born. Damn, that wasn't an easy thing.

I'm still depressed, but holding my newborn son did help. A lot.

I think quite honestly the look in his eyes when I pick him up is the look of unadulterated love.

And it makes me want to cry.

In a good way.

I have a little baby boy called Luke Issac John. He's a little trooper.

The second opinion at the doctors' - damn, that was a while ago now. I got referred to counselling, which hasn't come back yet, so I don't know anything about that. I'm still on anti-depressants and I feel, most of the time anyway, like crap.

bleedingdragon 01-10-2007 01:16 AM

Xyon,
My good friend, i will repeat my congratulations to you how wonderfull for you both to have a lovely baby boy called
Luke Issac John a great name mate, I bet he is a little trooper to

thank you for your earlier pm mate it meant a lot.

Yes mate your second oppinion at the Drs, yes it was a while ago.
Its good you got a referal to counselling, they arnt known for their speed of appointments, it could be a couple of months even up to six.
Did they not give you an estimate of the waiting time. Mate please go back or ring up your Dr and check on the due date of your referal.
Maybe ring the counsellors direct to check on the appointment.

I hear you mate about still being on the Anti Depressants, if your still feeling crap you need to go back and talk with your DR. They may not be suitable for you, please go back. How long have you been taking your ADS, they should start working 4-6 weeks after you start taking them.
If youve been taking them alot longer all the more reason to go back.
The longer you feel like this mate the harder it is for you.

stay strong my friend
im close by

Dave
