Trigger warnings and thread titles all read

I was thinking and was wondering how many other members find it 'hard' for lack of a better word to see what the thread titles are as in your eyes are drawn to the left of the screen and you see the bold black text but dont really notice the thread title so much and i know that i would find it personally easier to see the thread title first followed by the black bold trigger warning.

i was thinking and wondering what people thought about possibly changing the way around the trigger warning and thread titles are arranged for example:

From

*Graphic / Triggering* anyoldthread123

To

anyoldthread123 *Graphic / Triggering*

because when you are looking at a forum full of them it feels like your lost or swamped with lots of trigger warnings and no thread titles.

I think that most people are ok with the layout and its just me that finds it alittle difficult at times to see whats staring me in the face as it were i know that the idea is to draw your immediate attention to the trigger warning/s.

James 14-06-2007 11:46 AM

Interesting question - it might be worth starting a poll on this?

Kaya 14-06-2007 05:01 PM

I completely agree with you, Aaron.

Also, that would help me because I'm not really loving the fact that, at a glance, it's impossible to tell the difference between the "Sticky" and "Trigger" things.

Queen Crabbit 14-06-2007 05:31 PM

Yeah, that would be quite groovy if it were possible.

Harley 14-06-2007 05:34 PM

I will look to see if it is possible...

i dont like the auto labels at all.
well.
tbh.
i hardly make threads that need trigger warnings.
but they're just a bit of an eyesore.
i liked how it was on recover. where ppl can put in their own trigger warnings. well, i guess they can still do that here, shrug.
but all in all, i dont mind either way.

Kaya 15-06-2007 05:25 AM

Maybe if they could be un-bolded?

akita 16-06-2007 12:07 PM

Change them i reckon

_plastic 17-06-2007 10:30 AM

I suggest that u keep it at the left cuz we read from left to right , Right ? and so we first see the label and so if we are in a mood that makes it hard to read triggering threads then we won't read it
But if it was at the end of the title then we are done reading the thread and really involved to see what is really like ,
May be we need additional labels?

Aidee 17-06-2007 10:57 AM

^^^ Exactly. Please leave them as they are as we read left to right, and the trigger label is the most important part of the thread title, so I think it's important to leave first.

Swap them over, definately.

James 17-06-2007 12:51 PM

hmmm....definately sounds like opinion is divided over this one!

Standard labels are a very good thing since they allow Harley, Mods and myself to search specifically for threads matching those criteria - non-standard user defined labels are far too 'wolly'.

Queen Crabbit 17-06-2007 12:59 PM

I don't know if there is one or not, but if swapping them is possible to do, then perhaps a poll in General would be a good idea, to get a larger percentage of RYL voting...?

Victim+Of+Hate 17-06-2007 07:55 PM

keep them as they are...the trigger warnings are the most important part of a thread title.

chels x

~Lizzie~ 17-06-2007 11:16 PM

I think you should swap them around because it's really difficult to read the titles.

Voldemort 17-06-2007 11:22 PM

There's still an issue with the labels though - They can't be seen on the main forum page. I KEEP clicking into threads that have warnings that can't be seen on the main page. I'm ok with triggers, but if people aren't...

Pot_Steve 17-06-2007 11:51 PM

Yeah, the labels should definitely be shown on the main forum page, that way you'll know before you get into a sub-forum whether a particular thread could trigger or not. I voted to swap them, because it made sense to me. You don't look at the age rating before the title of the film, do you? (I know it's not exactly the same thing, but still, that was only a metaphor!) Also, for those having trouble reading/noticing them, is it at all possible to change the colour of the font, maybe to red or green or something?

Isoverity 18-06-2007 02:58 AM

I just looked in there and (as seems usual) almost everything says *Triggering*. Why not just assume most things in Serious are probably triggering and just put in what form (SI, SA, ED etc.). It looks silly and messy seeing everything marked triggering in big bold letters. Its not like people go in there thinking its F&D.

Mostly the site looks great and its very impressive technically and layout wise. Source code says vbulletin a lot but it hardly looks like anything I seen before and I belong to lots of vboards. Nice job.

All I'm Living For 18-06-2007 04:42 AM

i say change them. whenever i go into SD to give some support, all i see is Trigger and its very overwhelming and it makes it hard for me to reply or even pick a post to reply to.

DEFINITLEY.

also. i dont see why the trigger warning is the most important part of the title. surely the.. title is?

Casper_Fading 19-06-2007 12:02 AM

Doesn't bother me either way! I'd like to know the outcome though

Accidentally Abstract 19-06-2007 12:44 AM

I'd prefer it if they were swapped around too.

Crumple... 19-06-2007 05:24 AM

Much prefer it if they were swapped around.

Also agree with just assuming most things will be triggering in serious rather than every thread being labeled.
Also, I was in SI discussion a while ago and almost everything thread was labeled *Triggering SI* Surely that's kind of redundant considering you're posting in a forum called SI discussion?

Pink Lemonade Fairy 19-06-2007 07:30 PM

SWAPPPPPPPPP

Harley 20-06-2007 02:32 PM

OK!

It really was not very easy - but I have now managed to modify it so that the Labels come after threads!

It is obviously working now :)

Let me know what you think, and we will judge whether or not to keep it in this improved format or not over the next couple of weeks

Queen Crabbit 20-06-2007 02:53 PM

Ooh, thanks :)

I think that's why that particular rule is in place anyway

Crysainta 22-06-2007 05:32 AM

The abbreviations ED and SI are commonly known as they are both forms of self-harm and RYL is a self-harm website. SA is not a form of self-harm. There really is no reason to make a big fuss over people not being allowed to use "SA."

Queen Crabbit 22-06-2007 12:16 PM

SA can stand for something else too, but I can't remember what it was. Someone used it once though and I went to try to help and it was about something totally different.
Or maybe I just made that up.
*shrugs*

There is a clear list on RYL that is at the top of forums or most of them as a "sticky" called labelling guidelines take the time to look around and read first.

Labelling guidelines

i think the "big fuss" is not about the shortening to SA.
but more the fact that the person doesn't want to see the words "sexual abuse" all over the forums.
&i can see why.

=D
It is *so* much easier to use Serious Discussion now, in terms of reading the thread titles, I couldn't think of a solution to the problem but this is it!

THANK YOU!

Dreaming. 24-06-2007 01:57 PM

^ Ditto with the ED Forum. I love it. It's just so, so much easier now.

Victim+Of+Hate 24-06-2007 03:59 PM

i hate to be the odd one but,i dont like it...

like really dont like it.the black's in the wrong place now,it doesnt look right.maybe if some colour schemes /skins what ever they are come it might be better but i doubt it.
