RYL journals.
Hey there.
Um, I'm not sure if this is allowed, and if it's not, then well..delete it please. This is not meant to be harmful to this website, and I'm definitely not giving out the web address of the forum I'm describing, as to not try and stir up trouble/move members away from RYL. Anyway, I'm quite an old member of a support site for teenagers and young adults, and a while ago there was an idea put forward, and then put into the early stages by the forum adminstrator, as to give members a journal to record their day or whatever. He eventually got rid of this, and decided not to have journals. I loved the idea, and after I found out the admin had decided against implicating journals to the site, started a campaign for him to at least think about introducing them. I've now realised the vast amount of features on that website that deter from the core idea to suppot teenagers that never even get used could be rid of and replaced with a journal system, which by the amount of members that have blogging sites and such, wouldn't be such a bad idea. I was wondering what your thoughts were on RYL in relation to a support forum, and whether you believe they're useful, especially for emotions and whatnot. Again, no harm meant. I hold RYL in high esteem, although I hardly ever use it. Thanks. Vicky. |
use it loads.
think it's great :) |
I've only used it once or twice, but I don't really care because I have a journal or blog on xanga. It's a friends/networking/blogging site.
I'm sure these journals are really useful to the people who are currently using them, and they could be useful to other people. Don't get me wrong I LOVE RYL, and I use all the forums, just not the journals. |
I think they're great.
Because: gives people a chance to express themselves. Also, I comment them from time-to-time, and, people are always very greatful. Comment a journal today (Y) |
I would use/read the Journals but found them a pest to navigate and have forgot all about them.
|
Oh , we have journals on this site ? Wow , where are they ?
|
Sure, Jack. We all know you really have a Secret Girls Diary under your bed.
And the password to open it is Aimee. ;-) Amanda; http://www.recoveryourlife.com/forum/blogs/. Or, you can click on a person username and go through there. Also FAQ Journals. |
I have never used it in my life...I keep forgetting it exists

In truth, I was never a big Live Journal user either. My last entry is from 2005 lol. |
Hmmm.. I agree with Aimee... People are sooo greatful if you leave a comment on a journal! They will be thankful or it! So its a good thing to leave comments...
|
I like having a journal on here. It is a way for me to vent or record what happened in the day without making a whole thread about mememe :P
Also, if you want to see how someone's doing, you can check their journal (assuming they have one) instead of searching through their posts. |
Haven't really been buuuvered.
|
Well, I decided to vote for yes, although it was a quite hard decission.
I guess almost nobody reads diaries of others at least I have the impression. But though I write very often in my journal, although I find it sad sometimes that nobody seems to read it (view counts...only my visits :notsure: ). But it helps me to write something there, so 1.) I could later read what happened on certain dates, 2.) I could write in the RYL- boards that more is written in my journal (because the boards can be read by everybody and entries can be find by searching machines) and 3.) because I am too lazy to write in a "normal" diary and well, I am here almost every day, so it is easier for me to go to my diary here and type a few words and 4.) because I can put smilies in and I could not do that in a normal diary because I cannot paint :-D . |
I don't use them; I suck at journal-keeping and get really bored.
|
I can see how they're useful to others, but I prefer my Livejournal. I've used Livejournal for years so when journals come to RYL I made a few entries and that was it really.
Personally I don't look at the journals but that's more because I mostly don't get enough time to. |
I like them. They're very good for venting. And also stalking- ahem- checking up on other people.
|
I think they are very useful. Sometimes I feel bad for posting about my problems but by having a journal there is a place to write things down, and I also like to catch up on how things are going for other people as well.
|
I do find them useful.
I mean I did with with my old account and I guess I will use it again with this account |
I think they're quite useful.
I don't use them, but that's just because I'm addicted to my LJ, and I can't be bothered keeping up with two journals. But they're good because it gives people a chance to get things out and express themselves even if they don't want to specifically ask for support / hugs on the forum. It also means it's easy to quickly check up on how someone is doing (in an entirely non-stalkerish way, of course!) and leave a comment to cheer them up. :) |
haven't used mine as far as i can remember...
&i don't read anyone elses. haven't used livejournal properly in a while either. just like random one line posts. |
I recall when v2 opened there was so much to learn that I think the journals sort of fell to the side. Maybe RYL should have a journal awareness week and
have people focus on using them more. |

Never used one here
|
Of course I can always see what proportion of the community is using journals, so the fact that everyone doesn't isn't any surprise to me.
RYL v3 is huge, and has tons of features. Som features some people use and others others use. There are members who are addicted to Live Forum View, and their are members who don't know it exist and indeed only use chat and have never posted. Do a vote across the who community, not just the forums and you will find plenty of people who wouldn't even rate the forum as a must have feature to RYL for them. Journals are a fantastic way of letting things out and getting small and large stuff off your chest. I am a big supporter of public journals (where thoughts are shared rather than hidden under the bed) and my goal with RYL Journals was to provide a simple journal system for those who didn't already have another online journal. The fact we provide a feature for linking to other journal sites means we are not worried if any member ISNT using RYL journals, not at all. They are just there if they are handy - every little helps :) Harley |
Tescos...
:] R&V owns my world. I don't need a journal for this reason (Y) haha. |
Yeah R and V negates the need for many people - and are perfect if you want to let it out but don't mind anyone else reading it. of course Journals are handy if you only want a select list of RYL members, or even nobody to read your journal.
But that's kinda how V3 was built - lots of features, you don't have to use them all but the idea is to have a little bit of something for everyone...whatever they need to get better :) Harley |
Hmm, I prefer LJ, or good old rants XD
Deleted mine actually |
I use mine sometimes, mostly for drunken ramblings/as a photo album. I find it is a good place to just babble on about pointless trite that has no place on the forums.
I've never visited other people's, I think I'd feel like an intruder.. (though if they aren't private I guess I wouldn't be?) |
I don't see any links to journals... and when I tried to follow one of the links posted it told me I didn't have permission to view that part of RYL.
*shrugs* |
when i was in the throws of self harm i used a dairy almost daily and then copied it to an online journal, unfortunatley it was before the time of ryl journals so i used a different site. it now holds my poems mostly, but not a lot else.

i tried to use mine - and if i had proper access to the internet i think i would keep using it. i dont think it deters from the support aspect cause they allow insight into the person your trying to support, they allow a distraction and i think that i will put things into it that i wouldnt want to post as a post itself.
plus i think that id rather use a journal on ryl than some random blog site because i know that people here know a bit more about me, or care a bit, or at least wont read something and post a comment about how emo it is or how you should get over yourself - which happens on other sites cause theres no understanding. i know people dont read my journal here but if people were to read it id rather it be someone like those who i know are on ryl than the idiots who ive encountered on other journal/blog sites - i dont really need another scene kid yapping about their hair telling me how much i suck. |
i think they're good for people. they can vent in them. i use mine occasionally. becuase i don't want to make a thread that self centred and what not.
|
I like that there is a place on RYL where I can write down more personal thoughts and things, the journals allow me to do this with the "private" feature.
