Hello.

So those who know me well will be aware of my history with mental health services- essentially I've spent the past 6 or so years either not engaging properly, being on waiting lists or being slightly forgotten about (#abandonment issues). I decided recently to go privately, partly because I was supposed to be assigned a new worker in the New Year and I kind of got bored of waiting, partly because it means I can have evening appointments which is better because of my work and partly because if I'm paying money for it, I've got more motivation to really try to engage and not be a troll.

I've sorted it out now and I have a first session/assessment tomorrow and this feels like a really positive step for me to start to properly sort my head out and I just wanted to share that.

:)

I can't hug this because my browser appears to have replaced the 'hug' button with your signature pic. But this is such good news, hopefully you can now get the help you need and deserve :)

So proud of you! I hope going privately suits you and that you find it helpful. Remember that if you don't click with one counsellor there are plenty of others (though hopefully you do get on!).

Thanks for all your support and asking how it went :)

It was just an assessment really and it felt ok at the time and then afterwards I felt guilty for saying loads but that's kinda silly since talking is what you're supposed to do :p

Feeling like you've said too much is nearly always a good thing in therapy! Glad you felt you could open up to her.

I'm so proud of you as I am aware how much that must have taken you.

Hopefully you will get the help that you need and deserve so that you can keep moving on from things and make even more steps towards a positive future.

Well done on being proactive about getting some counselling!

I'm glad the assessment session went OK. I really hope it continues to go well for you. You deserve to get something back, you're always giving so much out on here!

Thanks for all your support guys. Unfortunately at my second session today I got told that I'm too complex and some other random stuff so she can't see me so it's back to square one. Really can't be doing with the effort of convincing myself to be brave and seek support all over again.

I'm really sorry to hear that. I agree with Carmen, you have taken such a big step, and this doesn't change that at all.

I know it must be disappointing and disheartening, but at least she's told you that early on, so you haven't wasted too much time on her. There will be other counsellor who are able to help. It is worth it to keep trying.

Thanks both. Carmen, she suggested some place for attachment issues. I know I form attachments differently to 'normal' but I don't see it as a massive problem or as something that will change- it's just the way I am. I feel so exposed that I've talked about so many different personal things to someone and then essentially it coming to nothing.
I feel really **** about this to be honest.

Oh gosh that sounds so tough and really rather crap of her though good that she didn't see you if she didn't feel confident.

Big hugs

It sucks when you talk about all the things you struggle with etc and then it comes to nothing.

I agree with Carmen and Hannah, it is a huge positive that you went through with it.

It is ok to feel **** about it all. When I was told similar I felt pretty **** about it for a while too. Give yourself a few days and see how you feel about investigating some of the other options. Hold on to the fact you totally rock for going in the first place and going to session number 2!!

Lots of love Jenna. It's crap when something doesn't go to plan. I hope you can find an alternative <3

Hmmm. Well that friggin sucks! On the other hand at least she was honest and didn't keep seeing you when it wouldn't be beneficial. Did you recommend what you should look for when researching other counsellors? Have you tried the BCAP or whatever it's called website? I understand it took a lot of metaphorical balls to open up and it truly is **** that she wasn't the right person to help you help yourself. I think it is importAnt to keep reminding yourself of why you wanted to look for therapy. Yes, being honest can feel seriously exposing but at the same time, if you're not going to see her again, why does it matter what she thinks or whatever? I mean logically, as a counsellor she won't judge anyway!

Oh my goodness, I would be devastated by that. I'm so sorry that it panned out that way, I hate the 'complex' label. Please don't let it get in the way of seeking help though, there will be someone willing to take you on.

This may seem a bit of a long shot, but a clinical psychologist friend of mine in London may be able to advise on therapists and / or how to find a good one.

I got told by my uni's counselling service that they only know how to help people who are "milder" (as they put it) on the autism spectrum and because I am not mild they can't help me, and that they felt uncomfortable with my support worker's presence!

Don't let this upset you. Find a better counsellor.
