What are the signs that a cut/burn is infected?
Swelling
Heat (compared to the same area on the opposite side of your body)
Increased pain to what you’d expected
Redness
A green/yellow or smelly discharge
Signs that an infection has gone into your blood are red lines going from the wound towards your heart and Feeling ill; fever, nausea, headache, dizziness.IF YOU HAVE SYMPTOMS THAT IT HAS SPREAD TO YOUR BLOOD YOU SHOULD GO TO A+E/ER IMMEDIATELY

How do you prevent cuts getting infected?
Wash cuts as soon as you do them (with a mild-soap/ luke warm water solution/ a wound wash)
Keep a dressing on them especially if you are working in a dirty environment (such as Gardening/ with animals).
Keep putting anti-bacterial cream on the wounds.
Make sure you get them stitched if they need to be.
If the wound is self-inflicted make sure whatever you use is clean.

What do I do with an infected cut/burn?
You should cover it in anti-bacterial cream and put a dressing on it. The dressing should ideally be changed twice a day, cleaning the wound and adding more anti-bacterial cream each time. If it doesn’t start to improve or worsens after a day or two then you need to see a doctor.
It is a very good idea to see a doctor when you first notice an infection as it is easy to treat at that point.
